It's a Parp, Jim, but not as we know it

after the brief read of wiki it looks as if the debate actually lie on the concept of .9 recuring being infinate

therefore their is no last 9. (sounds easy but its a major hurdle)
if their is no last 9, then a 1 can not be added too it to round up the decimal to a whole number.

It a matter of how it's represented. .9r or .(9) look simular to .9 so we assume they share simularities when they don't

if we view 3x 1/3 or 3x 3/9 it's nothing like 9/10

I view it as .9r is not a number! as
1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1
.3r + .3r + .3r = 1

.9r does not exist as it's 1

it's all in the presentation.

That said I would have previously said that .9r was a different number to 1 but pure maths is a funny subject, give me stats or applied anyday.

So it's like Occams Razor?

You can keep shaving the remainder finer and finer but you never quite get to one?

I've never trusted maths. If you can prove 1+1=3 then it's clearly nothing but trickery, lies and deceit. :p
