1 year extension is good for my Dad as he's only just getting used to windows 10. Good for me as I don't want to deal with either a poor in-place upgrade or a fresh install of 11. It gives steam another year of development for steamOs.
Wikipedia disagrees, with it being released before windows 11 it makes sense as well.
Yes, Server 2022 is based on Windows 10 21H2 for its code base, nothing to do with Windows 11. Win 11 was far too new and unstable to be considered as a base for Windows Server at the time, and some say it still is too unstable.....
There's still workarounds for the die hard Win10 brigade that don't want to move to Win 11. The other thing you should know as a gamer is that Win 10 22H2 only has limited, partial support for Direct Storage.
That's not a big deal right now, but could be in future games that use Direct Storage.
I've been running my game box on Win 10 IoT LTSC for well over a year now, the latency drop from bloated "standard" Windows installs is very noticable.

Installing Windows Iot is for the extended support, as far as I've read, it is no different to standard 10 apart from some apps are not installed or running. You can achieve the same result manually by turning off or removing those same apps.
What we don't know is whether games, launchers, and other software will start turning off support for Win 10 21H2 at any point. The Xbox App already complains about it.

Windows 11 is all about dragging the user base to Microsoft cloud. Then leveraging that dependency to pay subscriptions.
Apart from driver support everything else is worse. My mine bug bear is cloud options shoved everywhere from Windows Explorer and every file dialog. Windows Explorer is a bloated mess with duplicates and unnecessary crud all over the place.

Nvidia gives a timeline on ending Windows 10 driver support
Nvidia has an updated timeline on when it plans to end graphics driver support for Windows 10. Game Ready drivers for GPUs based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures are also getting the axe.

I guess that's when everyone's Win 10 that legitimately got the extra year of support will expire. Looks like those nVidia users trying to run on the LTSC versions of Win 10 are going to have some trouble...

Yes they will probably have some trouble run games apps like Steam in 2026 if Steam will stop supported Windows 10 in same way it did with Windows 8.1 when it reached end of extended support on 10 January 2023 and Steam announced they stopped Windows 8.1 support a year later on 1 January 2024.
Isn't the 3 years ESU just for business and home users and individuals get 1 year? I can't imagine many business users are going to be desperate for the latest nVidia game ready drivers.

I dare say not many home customers with GPUs that old will be desperate for the latest Nvidia drivers either, but that's not really the point. You'd kind of expect a company with a $4 trillion market cap to at least put a bit of effort into fully supporting people, then again i don't think Nvidia care much about gamers any more.

I'm slightly surprised they have set the date to Oct 2026 and not before, it wouldn't have shocked me at all if they had cut off support by the end of this year. This outcome is probably about the best we could have hoped for from NVidia these days.
Obviously an out of date driver will still work on current cards and games, but new games and new cards will be the problem.
If you're a big enough company who is both reliant on Windows 10 ESU and continually updated Nvidia GPU drivers, then I'm sure Nvidia will be happy to sell them extended driver support...
