Allo all,

I last upgraded my setup about 6 or 7 years ago - GTX 670 looks to have bit the dust (it started with Direct X errors in games, and today it just doesn't output anything so now using onboard gfx).

My CPU will probably bottleneck quite a lot, being an i5 4690K - but I don't do heavy gaming, just any free stuff that the Epic store has on offer (been deep into GTA V recently, and now I can't play... hah, just my luck).

So - What would give me at least the equivalent performance on GTA V (from memory, it was on 1080, most settings on 'normal')? Not too fussed on maxxing settings, as long as its smooth and playable!

PSU is a Coolermaster 500W 80 Plus Bronze.

TIA!

It is around a 1050 Ti, so a 1650 Super would be a small upgrade. The 1650 (non-super) is poor value so don't bother with that.

An RX 580 is similar performance to the 1650 Super, the 570 is similar to the 1650.

I'm somewhat in the same boat, have a GTX 760 at the moment which has been fine for LoL which is what I mainly play, but recently bought RE7 and RE2 and have to play on medium settings and still not quite as smooth as I'd like, so was considering getting something newer.

Still deciding what to do but these are my thoughts.
RX580 8GB more VRAM but shouldn't make much difference at 1080p 60Hz which is what I play at, but 1440p or 100Hz and up and it can help, plus it will be that tiny bit more future proof if I decide to upgrade my monitor once/if it dies (10 year old Dell Ultrasharp).
Although waiting for stock, the Zotac twin fan 1650 Super can be had for £153 and is newer/runs cooler/less power consumption/5 year warranty.

Based on new prices, personally I'd get myself the 1650 Super, but as I'm in no rush, if an RX 580 comes up for sale second hand, that can probably be had for ~£100... or even a 1060 6GB for similar, or a 1070 for £180ish??

Hmmm decisions decisions..

2nd hand would be my bet if u can find somit off the bay or something decent for ur budget. I would say MM but i dont think u qualify yet i think it needs 1000 posts first.

There are b grade 1650s out which if u haggle u might get one for 130 maybe or less if u ask in customer service section of the forum.

Second hand is farcical right now.

There is someone asking £180 for a 1060 6gb in the members market.

The fact a 1650 super is faster, brand new and readily available for cheaper shows you how overpriced second hand gpu's without any warranty are.

I would say it's foolish to buy second hand unless you get lucky and manage to find the one rare bargain that pops up now and again but will sell within seconds so no point in waiting for it.

Buy a 1650 super and be done with it. I had to build a second machine for zwift and I managed to get a brand new 1650 super for £135 but prices have risen since slightly.

It's for occasional light use and even I personally felt second hand was a terrible idea due to the time and prices.

Plus over the course of 10 years what are you saving really? Will be 10p per month or thereabouts. Hardly worth the time and effort.

I wouldn't get a GTX1650 Super for £150+ when we have a new generation of consoles coming soon, since it only has 4GB of VRAM,and the OP appears to be keeping their GPU for a very long time. There are lots of deals for refurbished and new RX570/RX580 cards,so you can get an RX570 8GB for £125 or even less. If you are willing to spend another £50 or so you can get GTX1660 and GTX1660 Super cards with 6GB of VRAM for around £200.

Yes, though I'm not sure how much of a boost that would give you on average over your 760 in the games you play.

The RX570 is significantly faster than a GTX760:

Thet GTX1050TI was around 10% faster than a GTX960 4GB,which is generally faster than a GTX760/GTX670. The problem is the Kepler cards have aged badly, and only have 2GB of VRAM.

Thanks folks - I think for the time being I have bought a bit more time... turns out I hadn't seated my 670 properly, and plugging/unplugging hdmi loosened it. Now have done the right thing and secured the backplate with a thumbscrew (as it should have been in the first place), and card is up and running hah.

Touch wood it continues to run for now (until I *really* need to get a new card - still tempted mind you!)

Nice one!

That should give you a bit of time to add a zero to your budget and purchase one of the new Nvidia 3 series cards due in Q4 this year.

Depends on the games and the resolution, it can make a difference between playable or not, though obv playable is relative.
