Well over Christmas I ordered my Conroe E6600 and my Abit AW9D-Max board and its finally arrived and installed and working :D

I'm just letting it work at standard clock for a little while until some cancer tasks have finished (saves wasting all the time that the CPU has worked for ;) ) and then its onto reinstalling Windows and testing her out

Wish me luck guys, I'm new at this Intel thing!!

Many thanks for the replies :)

I run Boinc from the World Grid Computing as it does Cancer research.

As my Nan died of cancer I thought it was something that made the most of the CPU's I use and anyone that joins up with me against it.
Its a background program and doesnt do anything much to the performance that I know of. It can use both cores (if you use a dual core) and makes the most of when your not using the CPU or makes of what use it can when your playing games etc.. Very clever in my eyes :)

I'm not overclocking it just yet, just running a few standard tests first and making sure things are alright... My CPU temp seems a little high to me for idle at 42C which worries me kinda...

Any suggestions on what heatsink to buy??

Go water, you won't regret it.

I'm pleased!! New cooler and 3.6Ghz here I come!!

Well guys I hope this is a good thing :D

I'm gonna back it off because of the temps, the retail heatsink just isnt man enough for this but not to worry :)
I doubt its stable enough to run everything, but its running the cancer program I use, so I think its doing darn well at the moment :D

My aim is clear, new heatsink and 3.6Ghz and I'm well pleased!! 50% overclock, thank you very much!!

Hi phill9800,

You have the processor and motherboard I am thinking of getting-Love the Uguru stuff on the Abit boards.

Just wondering what RAM you got to go with them?

Cheers

I have the Geil Ultra low latency stuff, in a 2Gb pack. Its really great memory and I think it was well worth me buying!! I had it before it nearly doubled in price so I think I was one of the lucky ones :)

I think its still got a bit left in it mind ;)

It's not even running at it's rated speed (400MHz) so you might see a performance improvement with your background tasks if you could tighten the timings a bit.

Whats the rating speed gonna be? I thought it was gonna be going over its rated speed at the settings I'm currently at but it just keeps working!!

I'm using these settings currently:

FSB - 360
Multi - 9
N/B Strap - PSB1066
DRAM Spec - By SPD (4:5)
Est DRAM Clock - 450 (DDR2 900)

CPU - 1.400
DDR2 - 2.1
MCH & PCIe 1.5v - 1.75

Been playing around this evening, here's what I've managed so far...

Everything is on stock retail cooling and lets just say I'm well pleased!! :D

Comments and opinions welcome :)

I didnt run any stress testing software because of the temps I was getting. It did manage to pass a 32M Pi test, so I was very pleased with that.

It seemed stable enough to run the few tests I have put to it...

I think I can tighten my memory timings as well, but I'm unsure what my memory is meant to be able to give me?? I've got the Geil PC6400 2Gb Ultra Low Latency stuff... What speeds should I be able to see from it? Dont Intel Quad pump the FSB? So when its set to 9x401 in the bios its only 200.5 for the memory?? Is that right?

Get the Tuniq Tower and see how much more you can squeeze out !

Is Orthos stable at those temps?
Agreed tower lapped will get you lower temps and higher clock :)
