It says I need to check for updates.. but it is taken ages so ill download the updates tomorrow morning

btw, I have just realised that I havnt installed my motherboard driver.. maybe thats the problem?

but when I go into device manager my sound card shows up

You can get the Service Pack 1 .exe off Microsoft's site if you want to download it seperately.

EDIT: Yes, make sure you install the motherboard chipset driver. Very important.
