Its not the same anymore

Bet that all costs close to 8 - 10,000. Let alone the space. Rich men gaming.
The Vesaro special edition costs £45,930, you get a top spec pc thrown in but on their website i didn't spot the steering wheel that's in the video. In that video you can see the ECCI Trackstar 7000 force feedback steering system complete with pedals and that alone costs about £2,160.

I would go for the SimSteering Force Feedback System myself, that would cost £2,400. The precision se GT3 steering wheel will cost £915., or you could go for the GP2/3 renault world series steering wheel with Gear Paddles : £1500 with Gear and Clutch Paddles: £1750 with Gear, Clutch and DRS Paddles: £1850, Quick Release: +£115. I like the carbon fibre formula simulator wheel that going for £1500. plus £300 for clutch paddles :D

Same boat OP. 30, and bored of it. I play D3 and.. its boring. I play TF2 and its full of actual children (literally). I play CSGO and its full of tryhards/people with unbelievable abilities to shoot through the tiniest of gaps right at your head.

I occasionally play GTA Online on the PS3 but Iafter grinding to a million and spending it on ONE car i just couldnt see the point anymore.

So now I just flit between D3 and TF2, wondering what im doing with my life.

I feel the same. I'm 34 Now and used to love most games.

Tomb Raider the new one, haven't really played it, closed it after 1st scene.

I have pre-ordered Far Cry 4, The Crew, Alien: Isolation

So please Far Cry 4 don't suck...

You might want to give Tomb Raider another try m8. Just try to tolerate the opening sequences. It isn't the 'Real Time Event' press a button on our command spam fest that it at first appears to me. Well made solid game with great combat mechanics and good story telling woven into the game. The graphics are also stunning.

The first Far Cry was awesome, but after that, things seemed to go a little pear shaped. Far Cry 2 despite its rave reviews was a grade A borefest and Far Cry 3, as impressive as it was, just wasn't that interesting, although a huge improvement on Far Cry 2. Far Cry 4 is thus a game I amn't that fussed about...especially since I am forced to use Uplay in order to play it. Ubisoft seem to have a thing for making vast and/or impressive open world games....that actually just suck. (Assassins Creed series being another fine example).

Next truly epic game out will be Witcher 3. I am particulary keen on this one because the story telling and characters in the previous two games (and especially in Witcher 2) were absolutely top notch and the gameplay was pretty damn good also. Only downside was the limited nature of the world with all its invisible boundaries. This time around however, it is a truly open world free roaming affair, and off crucial importance, the devs have stressed that the environment in the Witcher will be packed with danger and interesting stuff to discover and do, as opposed to the Skyrim format where the land is generally, bare, empty and devoid of life....yup, the devs of The Witcher actually stated they though that Skyrim is boring, which is pleasing to hear from the makers of what should be the biggest RPG of all time.

I'll give TR some more time, I still have my saved game. Don't have anything on the go at the moment otherwise.

Agree about AC, just terrible, I have a few free ones that where bundled with GPUs. All gaming venders are adding store fronts now, even old Blizzard. I don't mind too much really as it keeps game ordered but I am up to 4 now (Steam, Origin, UPlay and Battle.net).

As for the BF series, don't even get me started. :P

JK2 Jedi Academy on multiplayer with all the character mods...absolutely epic

Banished is a lovely wee strategy game to chill out in.

I'm sort of in the same mindset as the OP. I grew up in the 90s and really got into games in the early 00s. Doom, Quake, Half Life, Sim City, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper, Total annihilation, Age of Empires, the original COD and COD2, BF1942, BF2, CS:Source. The list could go on. I threw an untold number of hours at those games and loved it. The only thing I was concerned with when I finished school/college was playing games.

In the past 4/5 years the hours I've spent has dropped off massively. And only occasionally has my interest been reignited for a period of time if I got into a particular game. Recently I've enjoyed Tomb Raider, Batman: Arkham City and BF: BC2 for a time. I've enjoyed Trine Co-Op, Bastion too.

I've spent a large proportion of my recent time playing the old Doom and Quake games on PC with mods. Really enjoyed it. Last night I installed Quake Live and ill give that a go.

I don't think it will ever be "the same" as it used to be for me. Maybe that's because I've grown up, have other priorities and no longer have the time to invest 100s of hours in a game. A sad reality.

I wonder if it's something that everything is too accessible now, it's too easy to get news games so you are constantly looking for the next thing to move on to.

That said there was nothing worse than that feeling of saving up for a new game and buying it based off the cover/back and a couple of magazine previews or reviews and then actually playing it realised you didn't like it :o:p

I don't tend to buy many games any more, there are still games on my steam I have bought and never actually got around to downloading... I just stick to games I know I enjoy and even then can't play for all that long, mainly stick to playing a bit of WoW and Mount & Blade (can't wait for the new one to be released! maybe my playtime will increase then :p).

I was actually thinking of trying to find out my N64 and blowing the dust off as I wanted to play a game or 2 from there.

I find the amazement factor is now missing because it's all been done before in one form or another, the same problem exists with cinema films because what would once be an amazingly epic special effect involving hundreds of extras, massive constructions of fake buildings & unbelievable stunts can be done with CGI by the same guys who make your PC games

Doom, Quake, Half Life, Sim City, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper, Total annihilation, Age of Empires, the original COD and COD2, BF1942, BF2, CS:Source. The list could go on.

I played all of those too and to add to the list, Starcraft I (Multilayer too), Homeworld (Outstanding game), Transport Tycoon (addictive), GTA 1/2/Vice City, earlier Medal of Honor series, Duke Nukem 3D, earlier Command & Conquer / Red Alert.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Seriously, check it out, it's so good I'm back replaying it again in a completely different way this time. Honestly, I don't have the words to describe how brilliant this game is, even having already finished it twice I'm finding new things, new routes and new ways to do everything. If you liked Rainbow Six, there will be similarities. It can be as tactical and stealthy as you want it to be. I could not give it any less than 95% and it feels like it deserves more.

Unfortunately yes, the sim steering systems prices are ridiculous, they are not even worth that price imho. But folk have money to spend so the prices are targeted at those with such disposable income.

Still, if they have that in their home… bet they have a big cheesy grin on them after a few hours. I would. :D The force feedback and peripheral vision must be one heck of a gaming experience.

Their setups are nearly bordering on McLaren/Red Bull F1 simulators from the price.

Owning that would be a whole new lease of life on gaming. That most of us can only dream.

but nowadays it seems like every time I turn my PC on Steam is updating at least 6 of my installed games.

^ This is true... I used to wait a while and pick the games up stupidly cheap on Steam sales (TR2013 for £3.50!!), but even then it's just an endless stream of updates and patches!!!

I still play in Offline sometimes, just because it lets me avoid this crap.

I'm well into my 40's and have gamed since the Sinclair ZX80 & 81. For me gaming is the best its ever been. Yes there may be droughts from year to year and yes theres dumbing down. I have seen many franchises start brilliantly and end up turning to dust. But with all the bad I still find so much to love.

And love it I do! With a PC there's always mods for games, new tech around the corner, bigger and better gaming worlds over time. There's much to loathe about the industry, but with that there will always be a release every now and then that keeps my passion alive and pushing boundaries. I cant even begin to imagine how amazing games will be in 20 years time. Lets hope I'm around to enjoy it!

Yep. Everything else held even (i.e. the subjectivity of the gamer). Gaming today is better than it is ever has been. Games such as Bioshock Infinite or Dishonored just didn't exist in yesteryear. They didn't exist because neither the budget nor the inclination existed to create such a compelling story for a computer game, the graphics never existed to create such compelling and fitting backgrounds to compliment the story, and since allowing us free movement in a vaguely 3d environment with a pee shooter at our dispoal used to be entertainment enough in itself back in the 'good old days', there was never any need to find the innovative ways to spice up the gameplay format such as is seen in the titles I mentioned above.

Of course, there aren't as many great games (relatively speaking) as there used to be and dumbing down is indeed an issue. There are so many 'badges, awards, unlocks in BF4 that I don't care about any of them...in BF2 getting an unlock was a big deal......and why does COD even exist!? (beause Activision aimed for 60 fps at expense of resolution/textures?) But the best of the gaming best, have never been better.

Edit: I am absolutely loving my gaming at the moment....recent games have been Killzone (PS4), Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein New Order, FIFA 14 (PS4), with BF4 being an ongoing 'concern' since the last 2 years. Other games that I played such as Assassins Creed Black Flag, Batman Arkham, Metal Gear Rising, etc etc, that didn't hit my buttons, got binned immediately. Perhaps that is my secret to enjoying gaming. i.e. only play games that are actually rewarding me with soothing biochemical releases into my brain and bin the rest, no matter how much the world is telling me that these sucky games are meant to rock. With that said, I shall never get as immersed in a game as I did with Gothic in 2001 or as long term hooked in a shooter as I did with BF2. Not cos these games are just much better than their modern day counterparts (they aren't), but cos I have changed and my mind just will not faciliate such a huge emotional investment in a video game any longer.

To all those whinging about 'it's not as good as it used to be', I will suggest again that the issue probably is that you have matured, and that your body/mind is screaming at you to find something more productive to focus on, yet all you guys know for getting your 'rewards' in life is turning to your PC monitors. I am going to stay in broken record mode on this issue for as long as people keep saying "games aren't what they used to be".....

I'm mid 40's and have also been playing games since Colecovision, the original Atari VCS and ZX80 and unfortunately I feel the same way as the OP. Yes games are more accomplished but I just don't get that "wow" factor anymore. I recall being amazed by games like Elite, excitedly upgrading my Amiga to 1mb for Dungeon Master, being floored by Doom at a computer trade show before release (I can hear the shotgun now), amazed by the original Command and Conquer and then utterly and completely losing my life to Quake 2 online gaming in the late 90's.

Maybe it's because I don't have the time to get involved in anything anymore but it isn't the same for me.

I agree with the OP.

Although, these days I mainline league of legends and nothing else. It fills in all the needs for me. ( I just turned 40 )
