It's time - Need to Learn to drive

Plus driving is all about co-ordination of your eyes, hands and feet. In otherwords its a practical skill that has to be aquired. Intelligence has very little to do with it. Once you have the co-ordination to control the car its relativly easy, but its getting the control in the first place.

Ok, I'm 30 now but for various reasons I've never had a need to get my licence and was put of learning when I was younger when two of my cousins were killed in an accident. My place of work is being moved across town though in autumn and cycling for an hour in winter doesn't appeal to me so much so I've decided I'm going to have to learn to drive finally.

A couple of questions:

Should I learn with a larger school like AA or BSM or just go for a cheaper independent?

If I were to get a small car after (or even if!) I pass my test, how much would insurance be roughly? I have no idea whatsoever about the cost of running a car.

Thanks! :)

I was a late starter too (29) and I went semi-independent, either way lesson are never that cheap.

I had a 1.4 Clio as a starting car and fully comp'ed in my postcode it came to £685, and would have been less if I'd bother to mention my pass plus stuff. After two years it had gone down to about £380. But after my 'snow unpleasantness' earlier this year, it'll be going back up a bit now...

But whatever the cost, learning to drive will be one of the better decisions you'll make.

I wouldn't worry about insurance to be honest. I passed my test at 25 and to insure a 1.2 16v Corsa fully comp costs me £600 a year. I know lads 17 paying double that after 2 years.:p

At 30, I imagine the cost to be even less.
