It's time to upgrade my Intel Core i5-3570K...

Not built a PC since 2013, it did what I needed (Photo editing & light gaming) so it's not been touched other than SSD/HD upgrades.

My latest camera kit has over double the resolution and now it's maxing out the system with the CPU at 100% :(

Not go a clue on the latest processors etc, I'd like to spend less than £1K on CPU/Motherboard/RAM, hopefully my existing PSU/GFX will be ok

Any ideas ?

OLD KIT
======

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
GeIL EVO Veloce Hot-Rod Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition LE 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Based on benchmarks I would go with 12700KF system ...... No DDR5 RAM in stock is only issue, but you could use DDR4.

I prefer this build to the 12700KF Intel build. Yes, the Intel is faster but it's significantly worse value and you'll need a new GPU at some point soon so the AMD system leaves you with £300 left over.

I would go for this build if it was me (adding an AMD RX 580 8gig GPU later on. I noted the timings of the RAM was better than the RGB alternative at the same price):

Why would you buy an APU then a gpu afterwards. @mrgubby already has a gpu that is faster than the RX Vega onboard graphics?

soz, thought you had reposted the 5700G option ... I would still go 12700k route though as its faster ;)

The 5700g is good way to get a single chip 8c 16t part at a reduced price. It would be ideal for the workload the OP is looking at.

it ain't got no onboard graphics? the OP's gpu is a bit of a weak link with 12700kf but its better than 5700G graphics?

the OEM 12700K (with graphics) is £20 more. For someone without a gpu I would say have a look at the 5700G as gpu prices are crazy, not the case here though ;)

Of course not, but not everyone is as anti AMD as you are. Intel are still charging for the graphics part of the chip if it’s disabled or not.

The 12700kf is a long way ahead of the 5700G for not much more money so not sure why you would consider a 5700G unless you need the onboard graphics and even then the 12700K is only a few quid more with onboard of its own.

Many photo editing applications leverage APU’s and GPUs along with CPU cores. The 5700G is ideal for this type of work load.

I could do the build in my sleep (never bought a PC, been making them since 80286 days) :D , it's the setting up the software up again that's going to take the time ( and the question of going straight for Win 11)
I would go straight for Win 11 as nicely optimized with Alder Lake.
