It's too hot :(

The heat gets to me a bit so thinking of buying an air conditioner, but finding one that is worth the price is proving to be a royal pain.

Anybody know which are any good (keeping the price down to below £300)? The area to cool off would just be the sitting room which is semi on the large side.
 
Had the the misfortune of driving past a pub yesterday as well. Why do a certain type of people feel the need to strip off and sit on a car park when it's like this.
Why are we do stupid when it comes to sun exposure?

Will let you know how effective it is in my two bed flats with blackout curtains and a window sealing kit for the venting tube. Was £330.
 
I got one from Argos for about £280 this time last summer for my mum's treatment room that she works from and it was an absolute life saver. Definitely would have had to cancel clients otherwise as it got so hot at times.

She's get a sliding sash window, so I positioned it next to the window, and mounted the hot air extractor to a the bottom of the window opening and closed it to keep it in place. It wasn't an air tight seal, but worked well and was easy for her to remove at the end of each day to lock the window back up.

A little noisy, but not overly distractingly so. Well worth the money as it cooled very effectively and really took the edge off the heat making it comfortable on the extreme days.

But the link doesn't work anymore and I can't figure out how to find out what it was, we bought it in store so I don't have a digital receipt. I'll see if I can get the info when my mum goes to work tomorrow, I do know it's only 5k BTUs though, but it works grand for the one room.

Just looking at an old email that I sent to a friend last summer, those screwfix prices are the same as June 2018, but the issue was they ended up going out of stock and didn't come back into stock for over a month.
 
Can anyone recommend an airconditioning unit sub 350 ideally. Im getting in ahead of the summer crush and getting setup early. With this weekend being LOVELY i expect many others to be wondering what summer may bring
Also.. Its not too hot yet still comfortable
 
Couple of things for most of the air cons mentioned is that they have been stated as being Evaporative untis and have no exhaust hoses, which means they are not air conditioners, but rather they blow air over Evaporating water or ice, which will lower the temp OR?

Even though they're labelled as evaporative, I'm pretty sure all the ones I mentioned exhaust hot air and use a chemical coolant for the heat exchange process for true air conditioning. The Challenge one linked that I bought last year definitely does.

There's a review on the 12k BTU one I linked where the guy says it has an exhaust hose, pulls 1.5KW and uses it to cool his server room at home.

Much cheaper ones that are labeled 'Air cooler', such as this one are not as effective as 'Air conditioners' and I don't think use a refrigerant, so don't cool as efficiently over a sustained period of time.

Power consumption put me off a while back. We just have a decent fan (with remote and timer) in the bedroom now for when it's really hot.

I need to get around to properly insulating the house really.

Yeah, I think that may have been part of why I went for a lower BTU one. Remember it doesn't have to be on all the time. You can set the temperature on them and they'll kick in and out to try and maintain that temp. Or you can just pop it on for half an hour or an hour to cool the room down.

There were so many days last year that I was literally sticking to my chair, I was desperate to have one myself. Problem is I haven't got an accesible window in my room to get the unit close to, so I made do best I could with a fan in the end.
