It's too hot :(

It's a fan that actually brings the temperature of the room down by approx 8°C

Ah right, so surely that's a form of aircon then?

Edit - actually where is that claim made and how does it do that? I mean if it is just a fan then, while it can cool a person down via better evaporation of sweat and disrupting the trapped air near your skin it shouldn't actually cool the room itself, if anything technically the opposite.

I have Dyson hot/cold purifier for the bedroom, but i'd say the cooling ability isn't amazing. I use it more to keep the pollen/pollution at bay (we live quite near a main road that gets a lot of slow moving traffic)

If that actually does that I'd be amazed because of even my portable air-con doesn't take 8°C off in the summer.

Once the majority of the house is decorated I think in going to go for a 2 unit AC system, one in the living and one in the master bed room.
Be easy to install.

No its just a fan! Sounds like good marketing to me.

Yeah that brings the temp of the room down by 8 degrees claim did sound a bit BS.

I got myself a 50 watt fan, I suspect it is more powerful than that one too, albeit probably louder... not too fussed about a bit of fan noise though.

As expected rain never made it here last night although air was a bit fresher in morning. Just a bit tho.

So how did nottingham get such heavy rain and a storm for hours whilst Leicester was bone dry, they not that far apart.

We had some good lightning at around 1am, I watched it for a bit too. Can't believe the baby didn't wake up!

Yep, bloody roasting. Work done for the day, lunch and a beer (in my hand :) )

Currys sell a 10000 Aircon unit for £300

Any good?

Most aircon's this sort of size/budget are fine for good sized bedrooms/living rooms, but you have to bear in mind that the the air con generates a lot of heat cooling the air down, and that needs to be piped out somewhere.

If you have somewhere where this can be piped out easily enough, then it'll work wonders. If not, then it's likely the heat generated from the unit is going to offset how much the aircon is cooling the room down by.

That's the one thing putting me off. I have to vent the hot air out the window, which is going to be a pain. The air coolers pump moisture into the air, so not really feeling that....and fans are useless.

Yeah, those air con units with hoses hanging out of open windows seem pointless, as a lot of the cool air will also escape through the same window.

Yeah the more sealed (insulated) the room is from the outside environment the better AC can function - likewise you want to be venting as much as possible of the heat from any power supply (if appropriate), etc. that might be part of the AC so that isn't offsetting the work the unit is doing.
