It's too hot :(

Why I would generally recommend a split system, but of course that will be more pricey upfront due to installation and I think not possible if you don't own your home.

If you're able to get one, it's very much worth it. It's a lifesaver in the office.
Thankfully mine wont be running all the time, just enough to cool the room for sleep, not really in the house much apart from that.
W and ordered that, so if anything is wrong it's all your fault.:D

They are pretty good.

Obviously....... Not as good as a proper split unit system.

We got one, I wana say 12k, maybe 14k, it sits at the top of the stairs and it does do a reasonable job of cooling upstairs which is where it's needed.

It is noisy, weighs a ton, and does use a fair amount of energy, although not as much as I had thought.

Solar system offsets the energy use anyway.

I think there was a lot of snobbery in this forum before you know "you must get split unit" "portable are awful" etc, and whilst I'm no way denying split unit will be much better, the portable ones are not terrible.

Yeah, portables aren't terrible. They're better than sitting in an uncomfortably hot room that's heated up all day from the sun.

Some people assume we're just made out of money of course ;)

Maybe a touch too warm for working indoors but pretty much perfect weather here at the moment aside from a little bit too much wind. Nice and usable sunshine outdoors rather than a risk of getting burned or too hot to do anything and not too hot at night.

Looks like it's not going to last long. Current forecast shows temps dropping from Sunday onwards, from about 17 degrees on Sunday to 13 degrees by Wednesday.

Also, a rainy end on Saturday night overnight into Sunday?

The weather always knows when it's a Bank Holiday weekend, damp weekend here too! :p

After a week of highs around the high teens, it's been surprising how much our lounge has heated up, often ~25C mid afternoon... But I'm trying to resist opening the lounge windows, to see if that reduces my hayfever symptoms.

New portable AC came today. Overall impressed was 28c in my bedroom and now 24.7c in an hour on low fan setting. Is quite loud though, I measured 59db.

Whats the make/model/btu? I just got a Meaco 10k btu delivered this week, heats also but not had chance to try it out yet. Reason I got the Meaco is it came with full windows kits and a longer hose than most other makes.

Same as you i think. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D3HWZZ4T?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I haven't setup the window kit yet. Also remember to register for the 2 year warranty.
Yeah same one. Set it up on wifi tonight and all went ok, I think the added heating feature makes it useful in the winter also.

Did look at a split level system to go in the hallway and blow into the bedrooms, but after some research it's not the best place to put one as the cold air travels down the stairs and it would have cost £2k to £2.5k.

Next week looks utterly dire. Looking at the forecast I predict we'll probably last until Wednesday at the latest before our heating is triggered in the morning. And here I was hoping that our heating would now be off until later in the year. :(

Loads of rain overnight in the north east, still going. Littleun's rugby cancelled due to waterlogged pitch. Glad I had them outdoor loads yesterday.

Feels a lot cooler. Hoping it dries up a bit later.

I've now reduced the heating in the house. It's been glorious. Still cool in the mornings but during midday don't feel the need for a coat anymore

Although not enough for the garden, ground is a bit damp from overnight, but drying up quickly and looks dry for the rest of the day. Looks like the focus of the rain has been in the north overnight.

Feels much cooler and fresher today.
