It's too hot :(

Yeah that's worse than me.
I can handle working in my office up to about 28c..after that I start to really struggle.

Tomorrow might be intense as the heat is building day on day. The bricks on the west side of the house are so hot now.
Time to look at portable air con units? I finally caved today and ordered one.

Our crappy 1930’s semi just seems to soak up heat, which is handy in the winter, but hellish during the summer. It doesn’t help that our main bedroom where me and my wife sleep’s south facing, with a ******* big bay window. I’ve had the windows and the blinds on the front of the house shut all day, and it’s still 27° in there. Just hope it drops tonight, the outside temperature’s just starting to drop below that now, so once the internal temp exceeds the outside I’ll open the windows and start a fan.

I’m guessing with the age of the property, it’s just all solid brick construction, without a cavity meaning that the brick just soaks up the sun all day, and then radiates it back into the house overnight.

We have a boarded out loft with stairs going up into from the landing. Just at the top of those stairs there’s a Velux window, so I’m contemplating whether somehow adding a temporary extractor fan to that window would help.
Have you considered getting AC?

I've had one for a few years and it's been an absolute game changer.

In years gone by I have legit just not been able to play PC games because the room was too hot - and then the PC running made it even hotter. But now I can game until my hearts content!

Doesn't bother me too much really.
If it becomes more normalised may look at getting something.

Think it's the length of time for me.

When I was in Cambodia and it was 40c I started to really suffer after a few days. The last day was so hot I drank 4.5L of water... And peed once. I was sweaty literally all day until. Like wet sweaty.

Dehydrated with drinking that much is crazy.

Top tip, especially if you plan to exercise but also if you're struggling with the ambient temperature just sitting around, grab a baselayer and drench it in cold tap water before gently wrinsing the excess water and putting it on. Bit of a shock when initially wearing, but very quickly should help wick heat away from your torso, especially if you have a fan pointing at you.

Relief doesn't last forever, but you should get ~30mins+ of heat relief before needing to drench the baselayer again.

Might be more tricky to do if working away from home!

I've kept putting it off. We have a heatwave and I want one, but it's too late, then the weather goes back to normal and I don't think about it, then we get another heatwave and I kick myself for not getting one! So, finally got my arse into gear this time.
Maybe it won't get much use, but you never know.

We have a 9000 BTU Electriq portable A\C I bought a few years ago, but to be honest it seems to really struggle to bring the temp down in that room, but alas, since our daughter’s arrived she has ASD, part of which is noise sensitivity that can sometimes be extreme, so she can’t tolerate the noise of the compressor.

If my room hits 30, that's the point I start to struggle to work. I think i associate hot weather with happy times so I don't mind it. After work can drive to beach and get in the sea. Or go for a wild swim etc.

Same way I get really down in the wet, cold windy winters. Can be week after week of that.

Heard El nino might make our winter dry and cold this year... Climate change.. So good! (jokes! :D.)

I've seen people mod the portables using ducting on the outlet vent. Keeps the noise away, but also means that the extractor pipe isn't in the same room, so it works a lot more efficiently.

It was only 18c outside last night if I had a garden I'd probably be sleeping under the stars tonight

Once you have it its there whenever its needed. I caved and turned mine on i've already put a shirt back on. It needs to have a hole knocked thru the wall with a vent, sticking it out the window isn't ideal especially if you're on the ground floor

That's the reason I wouldn't do it. Needing a hole in the wall.

Popped into work around 2pm to check what I am walking into tomorrow morning. Couldn't breathe. Restaurant kitchen you see, £500k extractor system and its 34oc, steam from Steamers and ovens, pot-wash steaming, 6 hobs on the range all on full. In other news, our portable AC we got last year is working a treat. We rest currently, probably for a a few more years at least, I am tempted to fork out split ac for the 3 bedrooms, as long as it can be uninstalled to take with us. Landlord will be ok with it regardless. Very tempting.

If you want something more of a bodge than this then get an old spray bottle, fill it with water and just spray the **** out of yourself every time you feel warm. :D It works really well in the night, too! Drench your feet/duvet cover/whatever in spray and you'll sleep much better.

Who's silly idea was it go to the gym?

The front of my house is painted white, the door is white. I went outside and nearly went back in.

However I did have a good gym sesh so it was worth it.

I think this heat is causing local grid issues, I felt I have been hearing some clicks in last day or two when in vicinity of my computer but not at it, and I heard another just now, but this time I was right at my desk, and it was the UPS switching, accompanied by my light flickering.
