Isn't the definition of a nautical mile "one minute arc at the equator", hence a nautical mile being the same everywhere, since we take the one and only equator as a reference? :p

Technically, if one is being totally precise, Newtonian mechanics cannot be applied to any problem on the Earths' surface. Or any planet for that matter.
