Recently I offered to help a family friend set up his new ipod. I basically went on his laptop, got a playlist synced with the ipod so that all he needed to do was put music on itunes, then send to playlist and sync ipod.

So, I leave him to put on his hundreds of cds that he has collected and all is going fine until the other day when things in the ipod library started muddling up. For example Act 2 was appearing before Act 1. Also things like track 1 was appearing under track 2.

Usually this wouldnt be a problem with normal songs, but the thing is that hes a big fan of opera so for anyone who doesnt know you have to listen to it from the start and go along. So theres usually a few 'Acts' in each cd that he has, and the problem is that act 2 is appearing before act 1, and also the same with some tracks where its all muddled and some randomly appear in different places in his playlist. E.g. there is an album, with some parts missing at the top of his playlist, then a few hundred songs down and the other part is there :S

Before you ask I have got it sorted via 'Album'.

Note, most of track names didnt appear when the music was copied onto itunes, so had to do the 'Get track names' or whatever it is in the advanced drop down.

Is there a solution to this?

Hi there, can I ask exactly what that does?

EDIT: something to do with changing song information, the thing is when I put cds on there it didnt have any of the information. I then did the 'get cd track names' thing and then was given a choice of 3 different things and wasnt clear which 1 matched with the album. Its a bit hard cause they are all operas and so many diff artists and everything :S

Yeah ID3 tags hold the info about artist, album, track number etc. Something may be wrong if Act 2 is appearing before Act 1 etc. It sounds like iTunes got the wrong info?

Try something like Winamp or MediaMonkey which should be able to automatically get the right ID3 tag info for you. :)

Yeh i was thinking itunes have given me the wrong information cause thats possibly the only reason why it would muck up.

So what would I do with Winamp or MediaMonkey?

Can it be used with itunes?

Thanks

Well I used MM last summer but I use Winamp for my music and use the Auto-tag feature, but I know most of my music so I can correct it myself. :)

And yes, just install WA or MM, correct the ID3 tags yourself and then carry on with iTunes. iTunes should see the new ID3 tags OK, you might need to re-import the tracks or whatever to get iTunes to re-read the ID3 tags mind. :)
