Trying to move all my music from one computer to another, including all the library stuff, playlists, album artwork etc.

Basically, on my new pc I've copied the music over and set the location to it. I've then copied the old library to the new location, overwriting the existing library.

This doesn't seem to do anything, everytime I start itunes it creates a new library file and I'm left with two in the same location.

Also, where do album artwork, games, mobile apps etc go?

Help!

Erm, C:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes - Everything is in there, XML files for library, artwork directory, media directory (where apps are), everything.

Install itunes, run it once and close it, copy old folder to new machine, run itunes again.

That's how I've always migrated machines. The relative paths have to be the same though. You couldn't move E:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes to C:\ and expect it to work.

Just move the entire "iTunes" folder somewhere, and hold alt when you start iTunes.

Point it to the new location and bob's your father's brother :)

Ah, this might be the problem then. The musics come from a mac to a pc so does the library file need to be edited to a new location or something?

EVH: holding alt does nothing when I start:(

That'll probably be the problem. I've never successfully managed to migrate my library from my PC to my mac or my mac to my PC.

From Mac to Macbook was fine, as was PC to PC/Laptop, but I've never managed it cross-platform.

Done some googling. Apparently you can edit the library file in a text editor and find and replace all the mac paths to windows paths.

Not gonna bother... Need to tidy up my playlists anyway:p

wow one asks in OCUK Apple forums and get no replies.. time to start using GD for this sort of thing

^ lol:p I know, my bad, most of my threads get moved after a while hehe but people are helpful here and I'm impatient!

In fairness if you posted it in the Apple forum it will get lost under the iPhone threads :p

To do this, shut down iTunes, and copy your “iTunes” folder (under your “Music” or “My Music” folder) to the new location. Keep in mind that by default, you may still have media content located in an “iTunes Media” sub-folder, and you probably don’t want to waste time copying this content over if you’ve already Consolidated it to another location, so you may want to exclude that one sub-folder.

Once you have copied the “iTunes” folder, including the “iTunes Library.itl” and any related support files and folders, simply restart iTunes while holding down the SHIFT key (Windows) or OPT key (Mac) and it will prompt you to either create a new library or choose a location for an existing library:

Didn't have time to Google it earlier, and coming from a Mac I couldn't remember the key on a Windows machine.

By holding shift on starting iTunes it will display a prompt, where you can choose the path to the moved library file.. no need to mess about hacking an XML file, is what I was getting at.
