iTunes purchase Question

Guys

I'm confused I thought if I purchase a song or app under one itunes account I can then download that again to say my iPad and I won't be charged again?

or is that not the case? Recently I have lost all my music on my iPhone when the upgrade went wrong and I hadn't backed up correctly, so I went to my hotmail account looked at what I had paid for and downloaded it again and now I have been charged?

Sorry if I'm being thick here :o

I think this is how it works if you have everything synced to iCloud... might be worth getting in touch with Apple directly here, they will have the ability to refund you..and should do so if you explain the situation.

When you say you 'downloaded it again' how did you do it. You need to go to the purchased screen in iTunes and just download the purchases you want from there. It's possible (although I've never tested it) that if you just search and click buy, as you normally would for a song you don't own already, that it will treat it as a new purchase and charge you again.

I was prompted at the time but I can't remmeber what it said if I'm honest :(

I just thought you buy it once and that it?

Not with iTunes, historically.

Things with iTunes in the cloud are better nowadays, but I'm not 100% certain the problem is gone.
