iTunes Restore Failure

I antecedently put my iPod Touch (2G, 16GB) into recovery mode instead of DFU for a certain purpose (can you guess?). Before attempting to put it into DFU mode, I synced and backed my iPod up. This backup will not work according to iTunes and it throws up the following error:

iTunes could not restore the iPod "Name of iPod here" because an error occurred.

No error codes were given. Can anyone help me out here?

*Accidentally* :)

Have you tried repeating the process from scratch? I'm not entirely sure what you're doing, but guessing at a 'jailbreak'.

Also, unless you've deleted your iTunes (and library) then can't you simply re-sycn it with your library?

Massive typo there I guess. :)

Anyhow, yeah I was trying to jailbreak after becoming annoyed that multitasking was excluded - I used to have it via jailbreaking before I updated. I have now given up and am trying to restore my iPod in the state it was before I jailbreaked.

My library is fine, bit I'm trying to get back my GTA game as the backup is rahter old and I have advanced in the game quite far so loosing all the progress that I made is a massive bummer.

If you're trying to roll back from iOS 4 to a previous version of the OS software, an iTunes restore won't work. If that's the case, sorry :(

Right, to smooth things out I am going to explain something:

1. Backup iPod before attempt at jailbreaking.

2. Jailbreaking failed and iPod in restore mode.

3. iOS restore.

4. Attempt to restore iPod backup from step 1

5. Repeated steps 3-4 3 times.

6. Gave up and went back to a backup made a week earlier.

7. Massive rage that I lost my GTA:CTW save AGAIN.
