iTunes Store Shutdown Feared

If MS had done this (and their market share in the OS market is about the same as apple's in the MP3 player market) people would have been calling for their heads long ago.

Yeah, i sometimes wonder why apple havent had an antitrust lawsuit against them!

Yeah youre right! They can still be used as paper weights! :D

Or they can be used to listen to music stilll...
I've only ever bought one thing from iTunes store and it gave me some random ***** rather than what I wanted. Still labelled it correctly but it was the complete wrong song, wasn't even the correct artist... All I wanted was a bit of Cosmic Psychos in my life. :(

I just wait until CD's are down to about £6 before buying now, they're already much cheaper than they used to be but they become bargain bin fairly quickly. Far better quality than some filthy DRM'd tat. [/biased anti iTunes store opinion]

Seems silly that apple is so popular yet full of DRM, perhaps people are stupid and just like stuff that is white and shiny or perhaps they have a monopoly, DMR is going down. Play, wallmart etc all have no DRM,

agree 100% dolph, love how Apple are 10x worse than MS when it comes to monopolisation tactics but yet no one cares for some reason.

Walmart do have DRM - there was a big article last week on Boing Boing on how when the store shut down, unless you had burnt all your tracks to CD they would not be able to be transfered about.

BoingBoing link

but iTunes is still pretty low in my opinion anyway - the only benefit it does have is the large catalogue, the low quality and the fact you don't really own anything always puts me of.

+1 I've never understood how Jobs and his "it just works" sycophants get away with this.

You mean like seemingly everyone on here?

The difference between "everyone here" and the European Union is one is a bunch of online geeks the other is a democratic body with the power to impose massive fines totalling hundreds of millions of pounds.

Apple bashing is pathetic, that is all

LOL! :D

Why? Music doesn't have to be off iTunes in order to put stuff on it :)

Because the chances are that they're more likely to use iTunes via them. That, and I enjoy bashing them... sure, they work pretty well, look pretty good, etc, but the sheer thought of Jobs rubbing his hands together at my expense really makes my skin crawl. Then, once he's got the needle in your arm, he'll try and sell you iSmack v2.0, which is actually what you were sold the first time around, but had some absolute howler of an issue.

I've still got a Sony WM-F5 - and it works just as well today as it did back in 1982... brilliantly.

I really don't understand why people hate iTunes so much. It's an easy and legal way of getting single songs that you may not necessarily want to buy a whole album for. Just because you don't want to use it, doesn't mean it isn't extremely useful to a lot of other people.

Lawl. Yes, you must increase prices to account for the 46% growth in sales via your disributors. That makes perfect sense.

so true - was about to post the same thing

if sales are on the increase then how can they possibly justify hiking the prices up - record industry have got no legitimate complaint here and should wind their necks in given that apple has actually managed to make a success of selling music legally online despite the widespread availability of free alternatives. Talking about biting the hand that feeds them....

I'll be quietly laughing to myself every time I see an iPod walk by. :)

Why?

It's the itunes store that would shut down not the actual iTunes application and why would it affect iPod sales?

I have never bought any music from the iTunes store and i have an iPod and an iPhone. I rip all my music from my CD's. Are you misunderstanding the OP into thinking that Apple have stopped supporting the iPod?

This rumor would never come to light, the iTunes store is such a big money maker for Apple, i could never see it happen. They would never shut the whole thing down as now they sell Video and Applications on it aswell which also yield a great revenue.

Apple don't just have good marketing, Apple are marketing.

Steve Jobs is an average product selling genius.
