Note: I'm aware that this could be in Music, Box Office, TV & Books but it'll get more exposure in here and with the recent debates about BBC and the license fee I think it should be talked about in here.

This just really confuses me. Their programming is crap to put it nicely, why anyone would pay to watch webisodes or catch up on a program is beyond me. Let's not forget about the silly amount of ads they already have on ITV Player

Depends how they implement it, it does say for some shows, not all.
So it depends if it's a back list.
If it is some sort of on demand backlist, like HBO and NBC have done, then its another joining tv on demand and if a few more joined you coukd throw away tv license and the satellite dish and pay for what you actually want.

I see it as a good think it paves threat for true on demand tv. Just whish I could use HBO go over here.

The internet revolution is going through a period of change the free content we are use to having isn't bringing in any revenue for the companies supplying it so they are exploring other avenues. Expect to see a lot of companies trying to introduce fees for services that were previously free advertising revenue just isn't stretching far enough.

I'm not sure if it is the right move for companies in general or ITV in particular but I've always been amazed by the amount of free content on the web and convinced it was unsustainable. It maybe that in future we look back at this golden era of free internet content and wonder how it was ever possible to get so much for so little.

I'll fill you all in when I start implementing it on Monday.

We all do anyway, don't we :p.

Pretty much. Some people are going to get content though non-sanctioned means and some people are willing to pay for it. Why bother with the folks using torrents, they will use them anyway.

I guess this will just lead to more people downloading shows from torrents.

I think that will change in the coming decades, governments will have to tighten legislation, to come in line with other crimes. Just hope it's done in a sensible way and not what has been discussed so far.

Fine, I don't care, this is where my USENET subscription comes in.

I hardly watch anything on ITV anyway, as it mostly rubbish programmes.

Didn't realise ITV was still going:p

I imagine this is as good a use for their benefits as spesh, heroine and chips, or whatever else people who watch ITV normally spend our taxes on.
