ITX and at least 4 SATA ports?

Is the SATA card you have SATA I or SATA II? Been looking and can't seem to find any SATA II PCI cards out there. Indeed, is there any point of a SATA II card in my server?
I'm using a SATA 1.5Gb/s card. I've since moved the system from the Morex to a Yeong Yang YY-0221 that I had spare, and swapped in a Dell CERC 6 channel SATA card so that I can now use 8 hard drives. Performance is limitted to the 133MB/s of the PCI port and is thus absolutely awful compared to the onboard ports, but it's not an issue for my current use.

Did you buy that case (I'd remove references to the competitor... !!) its got other names BTW?

I'd be interested to know how you got on with all those HDDs inside? Any pics? How were drive temps with only one 80mm exhaust fan doing whole case??

I did buy the case, never even thought about the competitor name thing though - just thought it was the name of the case!

I have 3 drives in it at the moment and it all works fine. I'll see if I can do a couple of pics. Not even checked the temps either so I suppose I should do that!

Pics would be great :D

BTW, for reference for original query there is a nice NM10 (low power) Atom board by Jetway that has 4 SATA and single IDE (2 more devices and could be fitted with an IDE-2-SATA adaptor). Hence 6 HDDs possible.

Tempting ;)

So how does RAID work with a setup like this; hardware card/chipset? I've always been a bit fuzzy on implementations. ITX seems like an interesting alternative to something like a Synology NAS.

Found a new one http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/01/08/zotac-launches-h55-mini-itx-board/

h55 based mini-itx board with six sata ports

The blue case is very interesting, hadn't heard of it before. Can't find a review, do you happen to have a link to one (in English)?

Would a PC based on this Motherboard with say 4gig of ram be a nice capable board to run boring day to day stuff and some photo editing / video editing?

case - easy one really - bluejour mini-itx case AS (blue is only colour but paint is cheap), comes with 4 internal 3.5 drive bays, 120w psu dc to dc board (may need an external brick) and costs under £70 (only one uk retailer on google). Get an external optical if needed

I've used one of these for my Windows Home Server and it's a great case. Very well put together with room to easily fit in four 3.5" drives. It came with the external PSU so all I had to add was the Atom motherboard, RAM and hard drives. No room for an optical but I installed WHS from a USB stick with no problems.
The next time I pull it out from behind the sofa I'll take some pics.

Intel have released a couple of boards with >3 SATA ports on them, they're avail on a competitors site.

Apart from that, there's a 6 SATA port Zotac skt1156 coming out soon which I plan on using in my next PC.

I'm more tempted by this intel than by the zotac board. I think it's shameful that zotac have restricted their bios to make overclocking more limited, that they've done so because their power supply circuitry can't cope hardly makes it any better.

So, intel offers 4 sata ports, but no overclocking at all. Zotac offers six, and some limited overclocking. I expect the intel to be more reliable.

Opened a thread on the zotac forums asking if the H55 board will be provided with a more flexible bios in the future. Thread's linked here, mainly so I can find it later.
