Hi,

Just looking for ideas on what small ITX builds and HTPCs have AMD GPUs stuffed into them

I'm looking at building a small HTPC but want a GPU that will handle 1080p with high settings and maintain solid 60fps

Thanks

Fury Nano comes to mind. Do you plan to watercool?

Air cooling only on this one and I'll be looking to buy new

It's a bit of a long shot but more after examples of AMD GPUs in small cases, it seems people normally go for Nvidia with these types of builds but I want freesync

RX570 has miTX boards, like the Sapphire Pulse etc.

In my bedroom I have a phanteks evolv itx case, i ran a Vega64 reference in it, recently swapping out for a Vega 64 LC.

In my front room htpc, I use a coolermaster elite 110 case, this has a zotac gtx 1060 amp in it. I've had a custom made itx rx470 in this case, along with an rx570 sapphire pulse.
These two amd cards worked absolutely fine for 1080p although they got a little hot compared to nvidia gtx1060.
Unfortunately Amd are too inefficient and require too much power regulation, (which introduces a lot of heat) to provide a good 1440p/4k gcard in such a small case, hence people use Nvidia.

Ah ok, I was hoping for at least a 580. Looks like I need to go for a 570 which is a shame

I'll have a look at the 570's

Edit - just looked and the 570 nitro is a 2.2 slot card same as the 580

Cheers

I have a couple of sapphire 570 pulse itx cards I bought for a failed crypto mining experiment, great 1080p gaming cards for the price.

Could also look at a pre owned Nano or if you can fit in the fan and tube a furyX.

NVIDIA seem to have more smaller cards than AMD, possibly due to the fact they are drawing less power.

Ah my bad yeah the pulse is 2 slot that's good then thanks

I suppose that's the most powerful 2 slot AMD card available new then, if it is then that's what I'll need to get

There are faster cards from "new". There is a HP RX580 from their systems, that is miTX and also Powercolor RX Vega 56 Nano. However you need to search for both.
One on used markets the other from abroad.

Worth remembering that the Powercolor V56 Nano is just a Powercolor V56 Red Dragon with a weak sauce cooler, running that off an ITX PSU is either going to be very expensive or very explodey.

Thats not the issue. The price is. £500 is too expensive for what it is.

Yeah not paying £500 and the HP OEM is interesting didnt know that but too much messing around if there is an issue with it

I'll double check all the 580's to make sure there is no 2.0 slot coolers because I wanted the 8GB VRAM and if not I'll just have to go for the fastest 570 I can find thats 2.0 slot which is probably the Pulse

What case do you have in mind? Are you prepared to do some tiny modding?

I'm decommissioning a Silverstone SG05 build that housed a GTX Titan running off a Gold-rated 450W SFX PSU with no issues. I did have to cut a hole on the internal front wall to squeeze the extra 1/4 inch of the Titan's length in, but it was hidden by the facia. But still, GTX Titan, i5 2500K, AIO cooler and 2 SSDs in a case smaller than a shoebox was pretty epic :p

I'm also planning a Node 202 build and that thing will fit pretty much any GPU - there is plenty of space to fit a 300mm long, 2.5 slot cooler in there and still fit some 12mm or 15mm thick 120mm fans to bring some fresh air directly into the card's cooler. PSU isn't an issue either as you can get gold-rated 650W SFX units now (Silverstone SX650-G springs to mind) and that will power any single GPU card. The Node 202 might not fit the SFX-L PSUs though without chopping a space to give the cables some bending space (but the unit body will fit).

So really it depends on the case you want to use.

Sounds interesting, I'm after a console style case really so wider than it is tall because the space in the cabinet is quite wide

Node 202 could be an option then. There's also the Silverstone FTZ01 which is the same internal chassis as the Raven RVZ01 without the tacky plastic exterior. The FTZ01-E is a variation that supports full ATX PSUs and drops the slot-loaded optical drive.
