Hi,
i know very little (read nothing) about itx systems. im thinking of getting one and running some linux based router software on it. thing is, i have no idea where to start.

is it possible to build a system for about £100-£150? and what stuff is good to look at and what should i avoid!?

Thanks

actually, ive just googled and found that its prob going to be quite expensive. I think ill just buy a router.

you could build a mini ITX system for that sort of money, you'll be looking at second hand parts though.

I got a epia M1000 with 512mb ram for £75 delivered iirc. Had a hard drive lying about, 40gb, could buy one for around £30. then you need a case, how much you spend here depends on what you want it to look like.

My setup:
Lian Li PC402a case £30
180w PSU £25
Epia M1000 & 512mb ram £75
Harddrive 40gb £free (cost second hand £30ish)

Total £160

of course there are cheaper options on the epia like the 500, and most probably cheaper options on case & PSU

If it was going to be used as a router, would you not need a plethora of network cards?

you would need 2, one to connect to a modem and the other to go to a switch and on to the rest of your network.

in the end i just got a Billion 7474VGO
