I used to HATE Steam and stopped getting new games because of it. Long story but I wanted to play one of my favourite PC games (BLOOD) and the best way I could was to concede defeat and open up a Steam account.

Thanks to Steam I've been able to play some of my favourite games:-
DOOM 3
BLOOD
DOOM 2
again.

Exscuse me, I feel the urge to play Duke Nukem 20th anniversary..

I never hated Steam but certainly got annoyed by it when it was new and very much not stable. Its been great for years now though.

Welcome to about 2008 :P

There are quite a few re-releases of games on steam. Also check out GOG, as in, Good Old Games. It specialises in the old games and includes patches/ tweaks to make them work on new OSs just click and play.

I don't really mind any of the game shops / launchers. They're all adequate and all function as intended. Slightly iffy about the Windows Store as that seems a bit over simplified to fit in with the W10 feel.

It was the way Steam went about it that drove me away. But things're a lot better now.
So, ADOBE, how about following Steam's example?

The above question's a long story, part of which involved me wanting to put a gun to somebody from ADOBE's head and them having to explain why I had to download a free thirty day trial for ADOBE Photoshop Elements after paying for a licence then spending hours messing about

Agree! I never really had an issue with either. Used both since the early days. Steam offline works okay if you plan ahead but its been a while and might have improved since.

I wish GOG would release more true retro games rather than some random Anime/Pixel Art Wunder. Take for example, Steam have a larger Microprose catalogue whereas GOG, hardly anything. Appreciate it boils down to licensing, legal stuff. If only common sense would prevail, there are customers who are prepared to pay just to have in their collection. Very simplistic view I know. :p

If the Microsoft Store released some of their back catalogue, Links Golf, AOE & Flight Sims I would be tempted (albeit in the minority) as I rarely browse the MS Store for games as its a bit pants. Still prefer to see these games on GOG. :)
