our cleaner guy at work recons that as long as its all up just leave a bowl of bleach out for a night or two. Should get rid of all the smell

Hire the Rug Doctor, you hire it from Homebase, its basically a home steam cleaning unit and its pretty powerfull, basically industrial strength. Failing that get someone out steam clean the carpet, should cost 30 quid
