Ive Gone To The Dark Side

I had a nvidia card for years. 6800 / 7950GT / 8800GTX / GTX260 and all where good bar the 8800GTX being very hot.

So I was looking forward to a change so bought a 5870 (the 480 wasnt out at the time) and I must say its a very very nice card. It runs very cool (idle around 35 and under load around 55. Its very very quick too. I cant fault it and ave had 0 problems with it

I'll be joining you tomorrow when I pick up my second hand 5850 (and the rest of the rig it comes in) :) Woo hoo!

I'm upgrading from a geforce 6800GT - ha ha!

Like you I was with Nvidia for years.
I tried a 4870 about 18 months ago then soon switched to a 260/216..

But now can't complain, awesome comes to mind..

Takes a bit to get used to the ati control panel and drivers compared to Nvidia..

But as things stand now there's nothing from Nvidia to make me turn back

Hope you enjoy it

:)

Its in and working, but........Im getting corrupted text and graphics in web pages

Using 8.74 beta drivers (?) that were on here a day or 2 ago. I had it when I installed the 10.3 drivers from XFX site and the same using the beta's.

Havent played any games yet but ill have the usual Counter Strike Source feast later. Btw, should I hear the fan in idle?????

Seems quite a few of us have done the same. My Asus 5870 turned up the morning after years with Nvidia (my 285 spontaniously combusted) and am very glad i did, such lovely rich colours and ofc fps has taken a massive increase

ok, uninstalled all drivers (nvidia & ati), and re-installed from the cd that came with the card. Took about 15 minutes and atm it seems fine. No blockyness on web pages.

CSS (on XP) plays with a few more frames. Just need to jump into Window's 7 and install some directx 10/11 heaven :)
