I've got to ask, why would you spend more time on here than in the real world?

You dont have a hobby?

To be honest, not really.

I would consider weight lifting a hobby of mine (although exams are coming up in the next few months so I haven't been doing that much).

My other hobby is going on the internet.

That's about it really.

I actually only spend at most 3 hours a day on here, it's just that when I'm here I'm pretty much actively posting rather than browsing. OcUK is always open on a browser somewhere on my PC though which is never off.

Two essays due in for two different modules on Tuesday. :D Not started them.

Yeah, internet takes up a lot of my time, and I suppose that would include my forum - but what else would I be doing? Walking about aimlessly? Doing work? (okay, that's a fair point, but I have to be in the mood to actually progress - and I spent 5-6 hours on prep-work for my next lecture today, still not done)

There's not a lot to do. Besides, I'm doing something I enjoy. And I'd rather be inside doing something I enjoyed than be outside bored as well..a board.

This is the 'real world' for many people. It's like asking "why would you spend more time reading books/watching tv/playing golf/chatting on the phone/whatever than in the real world".

Internet/forum usage is a pastime, but because it is relatively new and is generally done alone at home there is a stigma attached. There's also a misconception that it is somehow detatched from this so-called 'real world'. You are all real people, right? We talk about real things (sometimes!)? We learn information which we can then apply in 'reality'? Yet none of this is real!

Yes, the internet/forums can be a form of escapism for some people. But that doesn't make them any less real.

I rarely leave the house most days. We moved to a new estate in a different town, no one around here is my age, the estate has no shops near it, no pubs... hell, it doesn't have it's post-code registered with the postal service yet!

Because I don't drive I depend on my friends to come around before we can do anything. As a result I spend most of my time at home doing stuff, whether it watching TV, doing 3D work, playing games or cleaning the house.

I can't wait til I get a full time job :(.

I just use forums and gaming to pass the time where I've nothing going on in the real world.

The only time I ever did that was when I was (completely and utterly) addicted to WoW, I would pass up evenings out to raid etc. Now I'm past that and I've seen what it did to my social life, it wont be happening again.

I only surf the web at work now, like for example at the moment im stuck on a night shift and theres like 4 people on... so im lucky to get a call once every 10 mins... so I gotta find someway of passing the time, I only ever play on my Xbox, and my laptop didnt run any decent games so I let my sister have it...

If I can go out, I will, I love just going for random drives - and having the house to myself this weekend - I went out with the lads and girls to a 50's america diner nr Swadlingcote, and it was a blast. Before I always used to sit with my Laptop and just waste the time away... I feel a much better person for giving the Laptop to my sister, and spend a lot more time with freinds and family rather than being sat playing EVE or other games.. or chatting on MSN etc
