Ok, i've done something silly.

Our network goes cable modem > wireless router > wired link to second router

The second router is being used as a switch and wireless access point only. Its a netgear. I need to get some info off the second router, but have forgotten what IP address i have given it. Its DHCP is off as it's all handled by the first router. I can't reset it, then i'll loose the username etc i need to get off it.

Short of pinging 255 address, is there anything i can use to help locate it?

Check the first router mate. It should tell you what devices are connected and what the ip address is.

if it wasn't a rubbish belkin router it would, but ive only got a DHCP list on there - and that doesn't help as the second router has a static IP.

no, because the second router is passive - the routing interface is not being used, its only being used as a swtich and access point.

And the router's IP will be under there as your "Default Gateway".

How would it? it's not being used as a router, its being used as a wireless access point/switch therefore his Default Gateway will be his first router (192.168.0.1)

thanks but it isnt set to its default address.

Do you know that because you remember changing it or because it didn't work?

If it is on 192.168.0.1 then you will need to change your IP settings on the comptuer you want to connect to it from so that it's on the same subnet

192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0 would do

Oh and plug in directly to the 2nd router and unplug the link to the first router to simplify the problem

can you telnet into the router you do have access to and look at its ARP table?

it's a netgear router, so no serial port.

correct, nearly. different IP.

i remember changing it so it was on the same network range (192.168.2.x) as the other router.

If its still got uPNP enabled it should appear on the network as View All Network Devices or something similar. I know this works in Vista, not too sure about XP. You could always Hard reset back to factory settings and start again with it.

i'm pretty sure i disabled it as it was causing a problem with something, i can't reset it - i need the account details off it. :(

I have to admit I didn't read that far :x

I lost my Access Point on my network, I remembered the three numbers but needed the rest and had to ping it and found it on attempt 57!

Couldn't you use some wireless roaming software and click properties and find out what IP it is?

use ipscan and scan the whole sub net, ie, 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255.

that will show what devices are on what ip's.

Factory reset the switch router to re-install the original IP address?

this is going to sound arsey, because it is i suppose - but if you're going to post, at least have the courtsey to read the whole thread.
