Hi all,

I'm sorry for the simple question but I am a bit behind the times.

I have always used speakers connected to my Audigy 2 zs sound card. Due to gaming into the early hours and annoying my neighbours with the sub woofer banging away I am considering buying some good hifi headphones which I think have a 3.5mm jack or similar. Could someone confirm the best way to connect them?

There are 4 connectors on the soundcard. One of them currently connects my speakers but is one of them for headphones or do I need to buy some extra hardware with a headphone socket?

Sorry if i'm being a bit thick but this is a first time for me

Cheers

I've got to play with headphones when everyones at home, My PC has a jack on the front & also my Creative volume control has one. For Headphones I am actually using a set of the £2.99 cheapo ones as altho they are carp they are unnoticable on your head as they are very light whereas your quality padded types are heavy & can become uncomfortable very quickly. In fact the cheapo ones become so unnoticable that I have got up to leave the room & nearly ripped the thing off my head lol

doesnt the audigy 2 zs have all gold connectors on the back plate? my old one used to.

here like this...

you need to plug your headphones into number 4

Brilliant, thanks for the replies. Yes the audigy ZS has the gold ones with a sticker with the colours stuck on.

Got to say these forums are brilliant as everyone is so helpfull

I have some really comfortable Logitech Headphones which have since have an inprint of my ear grooved out in the ear muffs which now actually starts digging in after a bit of time wearing them. But still comfy non the less.

You may want to think about a USB headset as that'll mean that you won't have to switch the plugs round when using your speakers after using the headset and vice versa.

I actually have my headphones and speakers plugged in all the time.
Speakers in Green Mic in Pink and Headset in Blue then change the Speakers and Headset to the same thing in the audio controls.

Presumably that'll only work if you've got stereo speakers? If 5.1 or 7.1 speakers are being used does this mean that the blue socket will be occupied?

Anyway I've got a Sennheiser USB headset and the quality is very good as well as the fact that it'll be very awkward to swap the plugs round the back of my PC due to its location.

I hear there are headphones that simulate 5.1 positional sound. Any idea how good these are?

I saw creative selling sound reducing headphones at £209 I dont know how good these are. I'm not made of money and struggle to pay my bills but pc gaming is my passion in life and i want the best experience possible without spending stupid money

Any recomendations?

Did you not bother trying to plug it in to see first?
I can't be the only one thinking some... things.. argh!

well he hasn't bought them yet, and one person has said that plugging them in the wrong socket crashed the computer.

And with a fancy sound card i wouldn't want to risk any damage by plugging in the wrong socket etc.

Am i the only on thinking some people should read more than the title before posting?

The Grey output is for headphones - it's the standard colour for headphones.

I have 5.1 in green/orange/black, mic in pink, and headphones in grey - all works wonderfully, no need to swap out jacks for 'phones/speakers.

Of course, if you have shoddy drivers it might not work as well, but works fine on my onboard realtek :)

lol, I used to *despise* realtek drivers, but the last batch have really impressed me.
