Decided a nas was needed a week back to function as my home server, after posting for advice and being recommended the sensible and adequate netgear readynas i decided to blow it and go for a custom build.

i decided on the ZOTAC NM10-DTX WiFi on the expansion possibilitys.
Ive ordered a Fractal Array r2 wit 300w supply and a samsung 1.5tb wd green 5400rpm drive to go with the 1tb barracude low power drive i allready have, on that ive also got a small 8Gb chassis mounted ssd for the server operating system and light apps ill be needing and 2gb ddr2. all came to just shy of £370, should be a beast!

Couple of things i was wondering, is there any transcoding software that uses gpu offloading?
Also what operating system is best, what is windows server like to use and are there better alternatives?
Lastly have i made a booboo or is this set up justified as a home server, its not overkill is it? i was drawn in by the shiny bits and the lull of unrapping new parts:D

Ive just done a similar build of my own, its a fantastic little case IMO despite what some of the reviews have said, ive got the pics for a build log, but theyre on my PC thats out of commission till later today :(

You wont be sorry with your choice.

OOh i cant wait to see the pics, ive read conflicting reviews allover the place on this case, all the online web reviews say its a great case but is a little flimsy and doesn't handle multiple hard drives well acoustically and costs too much, all user reviews and project logs say its a quiet and well made case worth every penny.

This being said i think all web reviews are for the first release that didnt hit market, all the user reviews are for the r2 that had added dtx support, im wondering if they refined a few other points on the chassis aswell.

Will definatly post pics of the build and if the mood takes me i may write a basic review of the board and case as i havnt seen much of them posted about.
