Maxtor 200Gb hard drives x3 (IDE and SATA)
Cheap case and PSU
Samsung 913N TFT screen

To this:

I'm hoping it will go well with my Coolermaster Stacker, the Liteon CD-RW and DVD-Rom, the Raptor 74Gb and another 200Gb Maxtor SATA drive... I know people where saying the Conroe, but I need brake disc's and pads for my car and they aint cheap!!

I had to give in to something....

Thank god I did right rather than wrong!!

I just cant wait to get it working, booted up, benchmarks ran, smile on face still there when I'm playing San Andrea's with everything turned right up enjoying myself

Oh and also having it pretty loud on the speakers too

Very nice step up there, you will notice a massive difference!

Oh and after a few months, try and test out your old system, i did that today lol, omg what a slow machine i used to think was fast :eek:

Did you have a look at Conroe? It'd be my choice over AM2.

ATI1900XT
asus mobo (top of the line in both scenarios)
250 W.D. hd
600w psu
4600x2 AM2
=616£

same with conroe 6400 =660£
well worth the extra 50£ imo

..still u got urself a top spec rig, enjoy it mate

may I recomend... next time you get some money to spend...
invest in a H2O setup... well worth it and u will have it for life
with around 100£ u get a top spec custom config

Id have gone for a Conroe system too! However, it is a very nice spec indeed. You will love your new shiny graphics card - I have the same one

As said, try Conroe if you can, but otherwise the jump is not even worth thinking about.

I noticed a difference from a rig twice as good as your current one, to one slightly worse than the one you want.

When I say difference, I was blown away.

In truth, the difference is huge. You will notice a BIG improvement, not just in gaming but in desktop / app use as well

Oops... sorry, the PSU is a OC Z PowerStream 520W model...

I perhaps should have gone with the Conroe but the models I wanted push it way over my budget and I just couldnt afford it. I noticed the ram at the last minute and as I have no idea when it comes too DDR2, the review and the posts I read, I figured, dump the OC Z and just go for it! But I know whichever model I went for, I'd notice a great improvement so I'm happy either way to be honest

Wish me luck guys cos I have no idea how to put this together! I've only been putting together AMD XP machines, not 64 bit monstors!!

EDIT: I've found A64 rig/s easier to build than old Athlon/XP & haven't blown any yet (touch wood)

I was lucky I bought that until I went through a few bits in the memory part of this great forum

It does look like an awesome bit of hardware, I wonder how well the AM2's overclock?
