I've rec'd Nokia N95 8Gb

Has anyone actually been able to make any video calls? Do I have to set something up manually?

I tried calling a friend who has an N95 using "video call" but the phone just said that it wasn't supported by the network.

Probably just like the phone was telling you;) - your or your friends network doesnt support it - try calling Vodafone to set it up.

I had this phone for week or so now and just few comments.

Can you not get videos you have transfered onto the phone to show up in the gallery-

I was using the video centre and my videos to list and show videos ( have a easy short cut ) but now My videos in the centre done show a list of videos and has a video listed which is not on the memory any more - if i try and delete it it says the file is open - can i refresh the list in any way.
(edit just fixed the problem by renaming the iptvmyvideos.db file located in the memory card in a hidden folder called videcenter now it correctly showing the videos stored locally. ) Bit risky but worked.

Im using freeware program called SUPER to convert any type of file very good quality and has a option called stretch it which makes the video be full screen in landscape looks nice.

Is there A quick way to get to picture albums that you have created.

Apart from that good phone sorted out the menus and shortcuts - vodaphone layout was pants - been playing sonic 1 on megadrive emulator pico drive works great and also scummvm playing through monkey island 1 again after few years -

TV out on a 26inch panny HD lcd looks bit fuzzy - wireless lan works well - but took abit of agro getting my hidden home wireless to be reliable on it. Which vodaphone data profile should i be using wap, mms, internet when using live.

Havent even tried the GPS out yet but did download the UK maps using nokias map loader.

I want to know the answer to that too.

In other news: Had a call from Phones4U today saying that my phone had been flagged up on their system because I had cancelled the insurance on it. The guy was asking a few questions about why I had cancelled it, was it a cost issue, etc. The £50 cashback wasn't mentioned so I'll have to double check my account to see if it's gone in yet....

Update : picture albums quick access - pressing the black button above the c button - brings up the tiles menu - set the gallery to be first tile and generally quick way to show your organised pictures in albums.

This handset could tempt me back to Symbian OS when my current contract is up in the new year.

Just need Tom Tom to release a compatible version and find out what other network operators are providing the N95 8GB. Would get it on Vodafone now, but signal quality is terrible where I live.

Rumour has it TomTom 7 will support the N95/N95 8GB built-in GPS.

Is there a car charger/mount for the N95? I can't imagine it being much cop as a TomTom replacement otherwise - my Eten G500 will only last a few hours with TomTom running.

I had exactly the same call. They basically offered 18 months of insurance, up front, for £90, payable in two installments of £45. I told them to call back later, they did, but I was in a lecture so ignored it.

I'm not interested - don't like these sort of insurance schemes. Especially didnt like the way they said 'To cancel the other policy you simply need to cancel your standing order'.
Just thought I'd dig this back up again. Just had another call from the same company offering me "a discount on your current policy, bringing it down to £5.88 a month with £25 excess". Bit strange given I haven't even got the insurance policy on the phone anymore (I cancelled it a few days ago). The guy on the phone even talked about my insurance policy in the present tense like it still existed :D

In other words - it's a scam, or at least a different insurance company using clever language to make it sound like you're talking to the company you originally took out insurance with. I guess when you hand over the details they ask you for you end up getting your old insurance cancelled and a new policy taken out with the new company.

Didn't realise mobile phone insurance was so cutthroat!

I just had them call me. He said "I'll remove your premium, Sir, and drop your monthly payment to..." at which point I asked if he was the same company. He said no. I hung up.

Rumours are no good to me so I'll have to wait for official confirmation. If its true, then I'll probably get one with a new contract in the new year with one of the other network operators.

Would be returning to the Symbian OS for the first time since I had a Nokia 7610 and 6630.

I'm having problems with messenger on the phone and what info i can find suggests that its just not going to work on vodafone. Anyone got theirs working yet?

Took mine back to Phones 4 U yesterday and cancelled the contract. I told them that I wasn't impressed with it and wanted an iPhone (not actually true) so they offered me £165 to keep the N95 and stay. Didn't accept it as I really don't want to be on Vodaphone and my current O2 contract is better for me. I might get the N95 8Gb next year on O2 although my current K800i is the only phone I've had for over a year and not had a single problem with it (unlike the N95 8Gb which broke after 24 hours). Nice phone though.

Wow, £165! Almost makes me tempted to take mine back - except I just know if I tried calling their bluff they'd probably just cancel the contract and say "thanks bye!" when in reality I do want to keep the phone. :(
