Ivy Bridge Released 6th March?

10nm is sooo 2016. 1nm is where things will really get interesting!

Sillicon processors will most likely not be used beyond 8 nm die shrink (although that value has been getting lower and lower with years but the physical limits are still there).

Yeah, was kidding... and revealing my technical ineptitude :o

how did you achieve 3.8?!?

I got the chip in 2008, quickly OC'd it to 3.4ghz and ran it like that for over 3 years.

Just last month I thought I'd see what I can really get out of it so got it to 3.8ghz with about 1.53-1.54v and a lot of tweaking of all the other motherboard voltages and settings. Took quite a while to get it properly stable. This is on an ASUS P5Q Deluxe.

This is on water with a 240x120mm radiator. It does run rather hot. No idea about the VID of this chip.

Well intel have a lot of decent products for sale and are in a decent position so they have no rush to release new stuff when they're only competing with themselves at the high end.

It could be that the 22NM process is also not ramping up as high as they want currently, as the article says 22NM CPUs will be available in limited quantities in April, but not hit decent levels until after June. With all the marketing bumpf about the Intel 22NM Trigate transistors, I suspect there is a lot of interest in Ivy Bridge, more than most ticks. A lot of laptop makes were planning new models around Ivy Bridge too. With mass shipments delayed, and Win8 released in September it might not be a good 9 months for noteboook sales,as people will probably hold off from buying a notebook now.

The weak economy did not stop Intel releasing new CPUs in the last two years for example.

So basically Intel aren't happy with the huge volumes of unsold Sandybridge processors and are stalling the Ivybridge launch so more of the old technology can be shifted onto unsuspecting customers who don't know any better.

Low quantity, high demand for the small shipment and the fact it wipes the floor with Bulldozer... What can we expect to see as the price point for the first few IB chips that get sold.

I wouldn't bother waiting for Ivy just go with SB and a decent Z68 mobo. You can always sell the SB at a later date once the Ivy reviews are in :)

Thats what i have just done. Got meself a 2600k retail for a bargain i think. Will use it till ivy equivalent turns up and then sell the 2600k. No more umming n aaahhring thank gawd.

A hefty premium I guess, I'm gonna go for a X79 & 3930k setup anyway, I need the whole rig, case, psu the lot but am still a couple of hundred quid short of an awesome graphics card to go with it & hoping there will be some Kepler news by the time I've got that saved. Was half considering getting my first ATI a 7970 but as usual the performance appears to be underwhelming and driver stability seems to be an utter shambles.

Yeah that's pretty much it, you can do much worse than buying a Sandy Bridge though. ;)
