i dont know if this is new, but i have just seen this:

which i think shows that ivy bridge wont really be a good upgrade from SB, considering for the "cpu" stuff it was only 1.17x as good

for inbuilt graphics - much better, but for cpu stuff - not really

would you agree with this or have i misunderstood about the new chips :p

edit: my graph is from here http://translate.google.com/transla...weitere-roadmaps-und-neue-benchmarks/&act=url

From what I've seen of preliminary results we're talking between 5 ~ 10% gain over SB (MAX). Not really worth the upgrade like you say unless its for the integrated graphics, as most of us already have our SB chips overclocked pretty high.

I think you would have to bare in mind that cpu performance would be impacted mostly by the OC. And im sure IB will overclock even better than SB does.

I like to see these graphs and they obviously do supply decent information, but you really can't say whether they will be worth it until they are released and tested by out trusted OCUK friends.

The first person to report on this (http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34548) shows other projected benchmarks, and has a link to a pdf containing the entire desktop platforms roadmap. It is the original source of most (if not all) news report. It gives a much better overview of the entire platform and it's benefits (or not).

I also understand that the max multiplier on unlocked IB chips is 63, and with 22nm technology it should run cooler, so higher overclocking does look feasible :)
