IWnet for COD MW2. Question for you.

no. i think the system works, and isnt as bad as it was originally made out to be, however, i miss actually big sized matches. 6v6 is just poo, and 9v9 is often laggy. especially after being used to 24v24

And this couldn't be asked in the other thread because?

I very much doubt that anyone will say that the matchmaking system is better than the choice provided by dedicated servers, especially with all the problems it has been having recently.

I think elements of it are good, it's certainly easier to use, regardless of how difficult a server list isn't.

However I think they could have made a matchmaking system and propped it up with a dedicated back end, somewhat like L4D does.

Also, the inability to select maps is clearly starting to grate with some people, so little things like that really need sorting, it's all very well it finding a load of games to join, it would be better if you could be more specific about what you wanted it to find.

While the system works, the hit rating is lag based and is quite annoying (players can die when they are round corners after they have been shot, not related to bullet penetration)

I do miss dedicated servers. But I won't drop the game because of it.

i prefer it.
much easier for my friends and i to have private games, than messing about with either finding an empty server, and hoping no one comes, or one of us hosting, and everyone else trying to connect, much easier set up now.

not noticed much lag, and the only thing i dislike about it, is on some servers the rotation of game modes is a bit better, but with the new mosh pit game list its not so bad.

much prefer the lower player count, and the new maps are nicer.

I think it's awful in comparison. Frequent lobby closures, frequent about to launch game then system removes 7 players for some reason, dodgy host connections, down time when host leaves, average pings always seem higher than in cod4. Lately many players are just being kicked mid game because of Steam problems of some sort. Last game 6 of our side we're kicked after 30 secs because of that.

I hate it.
I gave it a fair chance as well. When it works, it's not too bad. Unfortunately, it often takes me 5 or 6 attempts just to join a 'server'.

Try to connect
Timed out....
Try to connect
game starts loading quickly, yay! ... could not migrate host. boo.
Try to connect
need 3 more players..... count down from 40.... match starting in 8 seconds... need 6 more players. ... count down from 40 .. match startig in 8 seconds... timed out..
Try to connect
.... bleh.

Wish I could get a refund tbh. Many in my clan feel the same way.

You could have hosted a local game, and there are no servers so how is there any
map rotation, still seems odd to me not normally one to complain about new games
but after seeing no dedicated server I backed off, and this response seems
like I did the right thing. Its kind of like boarderlands which I only ended up
Lanning since lag and poor match making developent.

i agree i hate it. its a shame cos its a good enough game.
normally i join a server and everyone has a crap connection to it but the host. peoples movement stutters and its a crap experience

yes and hosting a local game can be a pain to join on cod4, if you just want a few friends to play without finding ip adresses or whatever.
servers on cod4 sometimes had decent gamemode rotations, which you have to specifically chose to play on varying game modes on MW2.

if your a hardcore fpser who insists on a CRT screen, and mice with a dpi over 9 million, on a ultra expensive carbonfibre mouse mat, then no, i can see how the tiny niggles that MW2 has would be game breaking, but for the average gamer, who just wants to play and have a laugh, it's fine.

but for the average gamer, who just wants to play and have a laugh, it's fine.

I consider myself an average gamer (at best) but I find nothing funny about unstable hosts, host migration in the middle of games which normally end up back at the menu, lag, lobby closures etc.

I'd love to be playing this more than I do but it annoys me a fair bit of the time.

Ohh and to answer the question, I don't like IWnet :)

I don't think many people would have been nerd raging if they had included the option to set up dedicated instead of forcing it down peoples throats.

and No, I don't even like it on XBL. been playing it on the 360 and it's annoying as hell when the partyleader leaves.

I timed myself and it took 164 seconds for me to actually have a map loading from the time I first selected my gametype.

The same thing took approx. 10 seconds in COD4.

Not sure how the 'average' gamer could be happy with that.

It's not BF2 in terms of scale, but it's worked flawlessly for me and the games have been pretty decent. I like the pick up and play nature and the close quarters action. It's well balanced I feel. YEs there's always the "Xbox Live" guys who exclaim n00b and faggot every 5 seconds but I like to amuse myself with them.

Yes, it really is dreadful, completely ruins an otherwise excellent game, i can deal with p2p matchmaking, but the system is embarrasingly poor, take literally minutes to find a game, and ive come across dire lag so many times its just not funny, then of course theres the lack of lean, kicking/voting e.t.c. e.t.c. e.t.c.

So far, for me, it's been a pretty good experience and I did have my doubts as to how it was ever going to be any good.

I've racked up 23 hours so far and only had to migrate to another host a handful of times and suffered lag a similar amount of times. More often than not I pick a game type and within half a minute or less I am in game.

It has a few teething problems, I agree, but far less than I thought there would be.

It is definitely aimed at the more casual gamer, but any clans or hardcore players can carry on playing MW and no doubt at some point soon the maps from MW2 will get converted to MW it's no big deal really.

If it allowed you to pick a group that was playing a particular map I'd say it's not bad. But you can't even do that, so still not a fan of it.
