Newer Audi car has vertical pinch welds in-bord of sills that are the initial jacking points, so I was looking at buying some grooved jack pads.
any opinions on something durable ? seem a wide range of prices £12 for 2 or £12 for one
the sealey one comes from amazon, so could be returned if it disintegrated in a few months.

so have you bought any jack pads ?

I've had a look through my past ebay purchases, the jack pads I bought a few years ago were about £4 each (in 2020 actually). Nothing special either, just the cheapest 'rubber trolley jack pad' I could find.

I bought 2, a solid pad and a slotted pad. I'll be honest I haven't used the slotted pad as I don't tend to jack via the sill but the solid pad has been excellent. It's starting to crack on the outer edge but that's more likely user error than the pad failing prematurely... it was after all £4 5 years ago. It has been completely used and abused and still holds its shape perfectly and does what was intended.

yes, a solid one would probably be fine even on the pinch weld(intended jacking point), although it descends about 10mm, the indentation on the Audi supplied emergency scissor jack is only 3/4mm,
so force is not applied at top edge of weld, as a deep V would permit.

Also having pads that fitted on axel stands would be useful too, if I wanted to put them under these welds - had seen a usa video on those

also, does look like ice pucks are same diameter 76/75mm and could hacksaw a notch in one, for trolley jack;

harder to do that for jack stands with `\___/' type top - my prior bmw had rubber pads incorporated in the sills, and equally sub-frame was more exposed(fewer protection panels) to position jack-stand stably there.

You could cut a hockey puck, but is it worth the effort to save about £2?

Also, I don't know if they still do, but VAG cars used to have jack pads available which fitted to the car itself. They weren't standard fit but could be bought from dealers for about £20. No current models have the mounting points or if they still sell them though.

I don't think these are the exact part numbers, but should give you an idea

Have you bought any EVs as you comment in that one too

BMW have specific pucks too for the plastic sill jacking points

thanks for your personal recommendation - not sure their elasticity will protect the backside of my audi, it's heavier.

OK I was being unfair on diddums and should have asked if he had bought, or done any market analysis on jack pads

probably not - the autoxbert ones from the guy you linked have favourable reviews, so not made of cream cheese

hope you aren’t following

I genuinely don't understand how these people manage to get by in their day to day lives if this is the extent of their overthinking. My sister in law is the same - moved to Berlin, needs to buy bicycle. Asks me all the relevant questions, followed by three months of more questions. It's as if these questions or decisions have never been faced by anyone in the history of humanity and they're somehow the first person to ever make these choices. Most of the time the questions are the same too, just worded differently. "What about this?" and "What about that?"

It got so bad I had to ban her from asking me about bicycles, which of course she ignored so I just hung up on her whenever she asked about it.

I get that purchasing stuff can be difficult at times, but come on, not a single thing these people are asking hasn't been answered a million times before, it's not hard

As for jpaul here, he's worried about his Audi from these things, that are specifically designed to prevent damage, what is this Audi made of? cheese?
