Bought it: Jag X Type - Did I Get A Good Deal?

I am going to be looking at a Jag X type tomorrow, wanted to know if you guys can point me to the best buyers guides and inspection checklists.

So far from searching i haven't found what i am looking for, mostly finding guides that cover the early years and don't go into any depth, haven't found an itemised checklist at all yet.

I have looked at the parkers guide checklist, pretty poor £3.50 for 3 pages :(

Tried Jag forums, but there is a lot to read through could use a condensed checklist etc

Thanks

Ps. Its an 06 3.0 sovereign, so think 06 means it will have avoided most of the common x type faults

Estate or saloon ? Own an 05 plate estate here, only annoyance is the tailgate glass has a habit of popping open when you start the engine. Cause is water getting into the switch, very common fault. If you lock the car before starting the engine then it doesn't pop open.

Not aware of a checklist, I think you will need to trawl the jag forums.

Just wanted to post an update to say i bought the car and see if you guys think i got a good deal or not.

Car is an X type saloon 06 3.0 AWD Sovereign, 39,000 miles. Mechanically all seems to be ok, i am far from a grease monkey but it stops starts and goes ok, no strange noises or creaking. Just been serviced and new MOT, short on tax only 1 month left.

A few cosmetic issues, headlight washer cover needs repair & 2 scuffs on 2 of the alloys, waste strip on rear door corroded and needs replacing, drivers seat leather a bit worn.

Its got all service stamps in the book but the last 2 are from ford dealers not jaguar and only the most recent bills came with it, so not full history.

Paid £4200 for it, what do you think? seemed cheap but considering its not mint and only partial history, would explain the difference, approved used seem to be more like £6-7k for similar

Looks like a really good example. Love the colour and interior combo. Would've expected a 3.0 petrol to have been less money but I guess the premium badge helps its value. I wouldn't call 2 Ford stamps 'partial' history, as long as the stamps are there, it's a lot of Ford underneath.

Would love to be driving one of these instead of my 2006 Mondeo, but they were too much money when I bought that 3 years ago now!

I assume it didn't get sold through the approved used or main dealer because of the lack of history maybe or not FJSH? It came from a small indy dealer, main dealer passed in onto the indy afaik, didn't want to retail it themselves.

Really works out nicely that most people avoid the gas guzzlers so we can pick them up cheap :)

Think it might be the age? I don't see any X Types in my local Jaguar dealership these days, they don't seem to like to have anything older than an 09 on the forecourt.

Whatever, it's strange to think of an 2006 car as 7 years old!

I see your point, not so many in this age range on the approved used but they do go back to 54 reg from a quick look on the jag site.

Looking nice there. My first was a saloon, changed to the estate when child number one came along - we wanted the extra load space.

As others have said, don't worry about the non jaguar servicing. I've used an independent for mine since the jag warranty ran out and had no issues. It isn't a hard car to service - and now I'm trading mine in for a new XJ its not something the dealer even commented on when valuing for the part-ex.
