Is this possible yet?

need to jailbreak my phone for my travels so i can stick a Thai sim in it when i arrive there!

but can't seem to find anything thats a defo answer

forgive me but what does tethered jailbreak mean? i suppose i cannot downgrade back to iOS 5 to enable a full jailbreak?

Tethered means that if you turn your phone off you need to connect it to a computer and re-jailbreak it every time.

Whereas Untethered means you keep the jailbreak even if your phone turns off :)

You can only jailbreak iOS 5 at the moment. You can't unlock yet which I guess is what you want since you mention the Thai sim.

Which network are you on? I was under the impression O2 at least would unlock iPhones if you filled in the form on their website. Might be worth asking your network if they'll do the same?

Yeah sorry mate but no luck for you there

Jailbreak = Allow 3rd party apps to run/gain root access to the phone
Unlock = I don't need to explain this part.

You would need to jailbreak first to then be able to unlock.

Could maybe pickup a cheap unlocked phone from somewhere for the trip?

think I'm going to have to use a old phone. just wanted all the features from this, phone, music, movies, internet, maps all in one place! never mind

depending on when you are going, the dev team have just stated there is a unteathered jb working for 5.0 AND .0.1
they are just sorting out bugs then it will be released, very soon i imagine

As above, at this moment in time you can only jailbreak tethered, which is annoying and very limiting.

There is an untethered jailbreak on the horizon but currently it is only 5.0 compatible, Pod2g has stated he wants to make it 5.0.1 compatible before a release

wrong

We reported earlier today that the Chronic Dev Team has working untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 but he said was only for iOS 5.0. It seems that after some further testing, they have been able to discern that the tool will work not only on iOS 5.0 but also on iOS 5.0.1

5.0 and 5.0.1 UNTETHERED

Yes, but at this moment in time no.

Nor is there is an untether for any iDevice on 5.0 (or 5.0.1)

It's not a case of testing it, he has to actually make it work first lol by running different code etc... the exploit used in 4.3.3 and 5.0 was closed in 5.0.1 so they need to find a new way of implimenting and executing the code, then test it for bugs like crashing/reboots etc...

I'd expect an untether to be released before Christmas, but maybe not for 5.0.1.

The iPhone Devs released a previous jailbreak around Christmas time last year and they typically release jailbreaks on sundays, which they call fun-days
