Old news report and incorrect information.

Its talking about Seasonpass being able to jailbreak it, Seasonpass made by FireCore.

And to quote their website as of today:

Seas0nPass provides an UNTETHERED jailbreak of the 2nd gen Apple TV running the 5.0.2 (iOS 5.1.1 - 9B830) software that was released on June 6th, 2012.

The 3rd gen Apple TV is not yet supported

As soon as an ATV3 can be reliably jail broken, I'll most likely be buying one... So can they hurry up please?

I straight swapped my brand new ATV3 for my "non-jailbreaking" mate's ATV2 for this reason about 6 months ago. Glad I didn't wait for a ATV3 jailbreak!

Grrr I could have sworn I found a link for a place offer a "paid for" Jailbreak of the ATV3, can't find it for the life of me now

I know the benefits of jailbreaking an ipad/iphone.. but what can i get out of a jailbroken AppleTV? Free movies/channels? (sorry never owned an ATV and thinking of getting one)

JB ATV to enable streaming of any media formats via XBMC, as well as other things

If you don't JB then you're stuck with iTunes compatible media only.

Just install xbmc on any computer use air parrot and beam it to the atv3 ;-)

Or just use mountain lion airplay mirroring from your laptop to ATV3, job done.
