Hey, I've just bought an iPod touch, I'm wondering which is worth doing?

Are all the apps available through the Jailbreak method available through the new update?

Thanks.

There are more free apps via Jailbreaking and some very interesting ones too that will never appear on the app store due to Apple's restrictions on what you can and can't do with an app.

Is there a site with all of these apps together, I think I'd need to decide which ones are more useful to me. I've searched a few sites but nothing of value stood out to me.

Ive found the apple apps to be much more reliable than my old jailbreak apps.

Also I dont find myself needing to charge my iphone every night anymore.

I'd say App Store is the way forward now.

Jailbreaking will void your warranty, some apps crash/freeze the phone, more risk when installing stuff etc.

App Store has stable apps that work.

Edit: Oh and a lot of the apps for Jailbreaks have been hugely improved and moved to the App Store for proper distribution, such as Sketches.

Yeah think I might just go for the App Store, there's plenty of free ones for tight gits like me! :) I'm sure plenty more will be added over the coming months too.

Jailbreak is the better option at present, I've yet to see any buggy/crashing app fullstop and I've tried tons. Apple's store maybe the way forward but the jailbreak route will have the apps that don't abide by Apple's overly stringent guidelines e.g background running apps like the awesome Intelliscreen.

I've only found two apps so far on the apple store worth keeping. The rest are dull.

I think the App Store is really going to pull ahead, but there are notable exceptions.

Take MobileScrobbler for jailbroken phones vs. the official Last.fm application (they are made by the same person, in fact). The official one can't scrobble iPod plays directly from the iPhone because Apple's API makes it impossible. MobileScrobbler has been able to do that for months now and is far more desirable because of it!

Jailbreak - does not void warranty and can be easily reversed.

Yes it does void the warranty, read the End User Licence Agreement for the iPod Touch and iPhone regarding the installation of third party applications not using the App Store.

It can however be easily removed.
