Was discussing this man the other day with a friend, and he was saying that JB is becoming passe... Personally I think he is riding a wave of singer-songwriter popularity at the moment, and I think that he is one of the best of the current crop in a great tradition of singer-songwriters... not the best but certainly noteworthy...

So what's your opinion?

I don't have anything more than a casual interest in singer songwriting, but the simplicity appeals to me. If I wanna rock, I need a band. If I wanna write love song I need a guitar and a mic, thats it...

I quite like the fella, but I'd agree that if a person doesn't like singer/songwriter music then thats probably all they need to dislike JB

I don't particularly like his music or any music of that sort, but some of his songs are quite catchy.

I've noticed quite a lot of these chaps popping up and singing with a whiny voice about life/love/relationships and how good/bad (delete as appropriate) they are. As soon as one type makes a good impression, record labels seem to sign up a lot more as soon as possible.

It’s annoying and so are these whiny singing men.

I hate anything oozing with sentiment, which the songs I've heard of his are (good grief that was poor grammar!). There doesn't appear to be a lot of thought gone into the songs; only the other day I was contemplating doing a comedy mock-up of what the original draft lyrics for 'You're Beautiful' might look like, complete with footnotes of stupid suggestions just because they rhyme. In fact I've just decided I will do it!

And to echo what others have said, he's also whiny and seemingly riding a wave of mundanity that's all the rage right now.

If I want a heartfelt love song I'll put on Private Universe by Crowded House.

Good song writing and great lyrics but has one of THE most annoyingly irritating male vocals in living memory, he winds me up as I find it difficult to listen to him, sounds like he's trying too hard or is just struggling

give it 2-3 years and it'll be James Blunt - who's he ?

He needs an axe to the back of the head. James Blunt is an horrific musician, and I want to kill him every time I see his annoying little face.

Axl Rose holds by far the most annoying voice still I'm afraid.

Is it me or does every damn single song of Jame Blunt's say the word beautiful?

It's interesting how peoples attitude towards artists change after a few months isn't it? When You're beautiful was first being played on air he was extoled by so many as being better than sliced bread (and that includes a thread on here singing his praises iirc). Six months down the line and it seems that he has been transformed in everyones mind into a whiny and annoying singer.

Now I can understand anyone not liking an artist, but to suddenly change their minds just to conform to the way "everyone else" is feeling, annoys me tbh. (that is not an accusation of anyone here, rather the public in general)

JB is NOT a great vocalist neither is he a great guitarist nor even a great songwriter. But he IS talented and shows more of it than any of the manufactured groups ever will.

Personally I find his songs quite palletable and a damn site better than 60% of the carp in the charts.

I've always hated him :p

I just don't listen to most chart music. Solves that problem.

That's fine! I have no problem with people who have never liked his music, it's the sheep who change their minds because everyone else has that annoy me.
