James Bond Thread (Denis Villeneuve to direct Bond 26)

Die Another Day started really well with the whole North Korea part but once the movie proper got going it was a right stinker.

Brosnan deserved better films than most of the ones he ended up in bar Goldeneye.

Bits of Die Another Day are great but I agree overall it is weak. I don't think the car was bad though, I thought that part was well done and the car scenes were a highlight.

I didn't think Tomorrow Never Dies was that bad at all, it's just that it followed Goldeneye, it was always going to be tough to follow.

The third was a bit meh although I still don't think it was terrible, Denise Richards was so hot as well.

I hadn't realised he's half-Swiss and mostly raised abroad in the original; people would probably be outraged if he rocked up as a German-speaking half-Swiss in this latest incarnation! :D
He's fluent in French, German and Italian, all without an accent, and can pass in Spanish, Greek, Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin. His education was largely in Latin, but it's no use for ordering coffee in Rome.
He's also half-Scottish, grew up in Kent from age 11, went to Eton and later Fettes (Scotland), was a Royal Navy officer and (I believe) currently lives in a flat off the Kings Road in Chelsea, so likely speaks like an absolute Toff...

Random thoughts...
With news that the real new head of MI6 is a woman, and having the real official title 'C' does anyone know why 'M' was used originally in the films (and books?)

There are various theories.
Fleming had a mate called Maxwell who became head of MI5, and always signed letters with M...
Fleming also used to refer to his mother as M...
Mansfield Smith-Cumming was the real head of MI6, who signed stuff with C in green ink, which is where the single-letter tradition originated...
M's full name in the books is later revealed as Sir Miles Messervey....
M could simply mean Manager, just as Q means Quartermaster...

what people forget about or didn't know was that goldeneye was originally written to be Timothy Dalton third bond film, as bond that Timothy Dalton played was more darker compare to those who play bond before him. so goldeneye had little rewrite to it for brosnan but still in tone similar to that of a Timothy Dalton bond film. when "tomorrow never die" was being done it was written for brosnan so it not as dark as goldeneye or the other Timothy Dalton bond films. it was more in line to what brosnan bond would be. now as to why Timothy Dalton didn't do goldeneye there is all sort of reason for it not happening.

Well that's a massive step towards allaying fears regarding what Amazon will do with future Bonds. Can't think of anyone better to direct so just need to stick the landing on who the next Bond will be.

Not sure how I feel about this. I increasingly find Villeneuve's films, while undoubtedly amazing visual and auditory spectacles, are lacking.....character.

I have zero interest in re-watching the Dune remakes.....but I will never get bored of watching Lynch's version.

I've only seen Dune and Bladerunner by Villeneuve and that would be my takeaway too. I think I'd rather see Wes Anderson's Bond :-D

I absolutely adore Villeneuve's Dune and Bladerunner.

But somehow I don't think it's a good fit with a high adrenaline and action fueled Bond film.
