Ok, I admit, it's a little old.

But it's basically the last properly realistic Jet Sim to be released.

Dug out a copy and have been playing it for the last few days, once you get the TSH packs installed the graphics are quite acceptable. Had to use the Alternate Pixel Centre to stop the AA blurring text, the game almost pre-dates AA.

So is anyone else a fan of games like these? :D

Falcon 4: Allied Force and Lock On: Modern Air Combat have both come out since, though Allied Force is an updated version of F4 and LOMAC doesn't have the avionic systems fidelity of JF/A-18 (but it does have the best flight model and physics in the genre - nothing feels quite as great as flying the Su-25T with advanced flight physics).

Sadly that's pretty much it as far as modern jet sims go, along with USAF which came out a year after F/A-18. I still play all of the big three (not been able to so much recently), though Falcon 4.0's wonderful campaign provides for the most playtime.

The only High-Fidelity sim on the horizon appears to be DCS: Black Shark (Kinda an advanced successor to Lock On)

You Get fly a Ka-50 in which every button, system and basically nut and bolt is modeled, true to life.

Each flyable aircraft will be realased in modules, modeled to the same level of detail. Next up is the A-10a then the AH-64a APACHE (British army has a few of these don't they?)

Black Shark looks great, but I'm expecting the campaign (the weakest part of LOMAC) to be a let down compared to the likes of Longbow 2 and Enemy Engaged. I had hoped for a dynamic campaign considering how long it's been delayed, but it's looking unlikely (though it seems like they might be going for something semi-dynamic at least).

Yeah they are either keeping their cards very close to their chest about the campaign, or maybe its going to be more of the same. I hope its the former, but it's more likely to be the later.

However nothing "Official" has been announced as yet.

Doesn't matter about the graphics to me. It's been too long since we've had a proper combat flight-sim released for the PC that wasn't dumbed-down for console gamers.

This'll be one game I'm definately keeping an eye on. :)

Good days. :D

Remember USNF as well? Spent ages trying to get that to work. And hours attempting to decipher Russian in SU27 Flanker. :D

The graphics in that game don't look good.

Well it depends what you are used too. It's impossible to have Crysis like graphics on such a large scale game like flight simulators. But there's always good communities around such games that offer loads of skins and mods.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to DCS.

Will buy this if it comes with a Saitek X52 Pro profile with the game...really annoying as setting up the joystick takes yonks. Yes I know know a game issue but still..

AH-64a APACHE (British army has a few of these don't they?)

That they do, they were sat in mothballs for nearly 10 years from what i can remember.

They bought the Aircraft, but didnt buy the simulators, or the equipment to run the aircraft, and had no budget to train anybody to fly them.
If i remember correctly of course.

Hmm thats interesting, i assume they use them now dont they? ( I saw one on Top Gear, so they must be combat ready... )

Anyway one of the reasons for the delay of Black Shark is that Eagle Dynamics (the developers) won a contract to develop a simulator for the Air National Guard in the US for the new A-10C, now they have finished that all resources are being put into the Digital Combat Series. The first being DCS: Black Shark.

Maybe your army can use DCS: Apache for training :)

My God DCS looks amazing. I've not bought any flight sims for years because I was constantly let down, this one may break the trend!
