Japanese Grand Prix 2013, Suzuka - Race 15/19

Do people still think TV figures are dropping purely due to Sky?

Of course its not PURELY down to Sky, but it certainly doesnt help the situation at all.

Not that there is really any fair direct comparison, but next season will be interesting because in theory because of all the technical changes it SHOULD be one of the most interesting seasons for quite a few years yet with Sky having such dominance I wonder what the viewing numbers will show

The last time we saw declines in viewing figures on the same scale as we are now was between 2000 and 2005. The TV rights remained with ITV throughout with the coverage not changing (actually I think it improved).

There was some German guy winning everything though. Can't remember his name? But people certainly complained that F1 was predictable and boring and stopped bothering to watch.

Sure Sky won't have helped, but Vettel winning is going to be having a massive effect on the casual viewer. I mean for starters its got people on here, who I would consider to be in general quite hard core fans, stating racing are foregone conclusions and not bothering to watch.

The other teams need to step up. Not just for themselves, but for the good of the sport as a whole.

when Sky f1 Started it was 1mil peak now it's 610,000 peak and the BBC has lost out as well with 4mil to 3.6 mil per race.
But all the top viewing figures for F1 is when Bridgestone was in F1 and the seasons was much much closer.

The top UK viewing figures for F1 was when UK drivers were challenging for the title.

1996, 2007, 2008 and 2009. All rises in UK figures as UK drivers challenge for or win titles.

2000 to 2005, and 2012. All declines after some German guy dominates.

We are being dragged down from an inflated high following the Hamilton/Button period by an accelerated decline due to Vettel.

Just look at the fluctuations between 1997 and 2010 when F1 was free to air and all live. Its hardly a solidly high baseline Sky have just come along and shattered.

The coverage is superior but less accessible, but as pointed out its more to do with the same person winning consecutively.

I hope Vettel wins just so you can moan some more!

;)

lmao, so do i!
its funny to see the moaning and hate.

id say viewing figures will be down because of sky AND vettel. Sky more so, i dont know how many people signed up to sky due to it having f1, that would be interesting to know

like some others have said, i see no reason why it shouldnt be another RBR walk next year

Alonso\Webber\Lewis could have won that year but we know that rb used poor webber as a decoy to get Ferrari to pit Alonso and it worked :(

You seriously believe that in the heat of the battle of winning your first ever drivers championship you'd sabotage the chances of your driver with the best chance in favour of hoping the opposition follow suit so your protege can pull off an against all odds win?

Not until Ferrari fell for it and then the golden boy was going to win. Remember petrov
keeping Alonso behind him as if it was life or death? Even Ferrari say that they made the mistake
in bringing Alonso in just after Webber. It was all over the net how did you miss it?

This is when the vimto hate started and poor webber getting shafted every race.
