Japanese Grand Prix 2014, Suzuka - Race 15/19

Don't like to speculate whilst Biachi's condition is unknown but the race director is seriously culpable here.

It's farcical that they kept the SC out earlier for several laps longer than was necessary on a rapidly drying track yet, with a car being recovered by heavy equipment and marshalls and track conditions worsening with many cars still on inters and thus a major risk of another car going off, the SC should have been deployed immediately.

Sutil confirming Bianchi hit the recovery crane, not good. Helicopter airlifting to hospital.

God damn, it was starting to look like it, can only really hope it was as low speed as possible. It's hard to tell from camera angles as it makes everything look flat, is that corner downhill? As in could a car slow down, aquaplane and then pick up speed going downhill? It was pre safety car though so might not have been that slow to start with.

Someone posted the video of the race at 2007 where someone hit a tractor in a similar way but it was lower speed and sideways on, nothing bad happened but the simple idea of that tractor being there when multiple cars were going off.... it was a reckless decision to put it out there right in the path cars would take, normally F1 tends to learn from those things and while increased safety can be a pain for the fans it's still absolutely needed.
