Japanese maple leaf tree with no leaves

Whut has this thread turned into? Lol

anyway local garden centre have the same tree for £50
It is about 2 feet in height
Still thinking abt it

Bonsai trees? Another example of man attempting to prove his delusional superiority to Nature in his fancy of manipulating it to me. Don't full-sized trees look good enough?

To be fair, it's just the way Raymond likes to relax at the weekends after a long week running the UK's most successful midget hairdressers :o

Funnily enough I just got a Japanese maple yesterday and planted it :)

meh you guys are really making me want a mini tree.

was watching a documentary about ancient civilizations and
Cedrus libani (cedar of lebbanon)
sounded cool might try to find one to grow on my balcony or try to grow a bonsai from seed...

It would be much faster to air layer a bonsai from a branch of a tree you want (tree dependant). It is as instant a tree as you get in bonsai. Everything in bonsai takes years, when people say quick, it’s 12 months.

to grow a tree from seeds in a pot for it to have a tree bark look will take you 15/20 years for something decent. It will look like a green twig for the first few years.

If you stick it into the ground and let the roots grow then it will thicken up quicker but air layering still faster.

Or just buy it...Morrison’s are selling them for like £7, comes in a pot. It’s not going to be amazing but it’s good value.

nice how much did it cost?

pay day soon
I am tempted to spend that £50, take the old tree out and replant a new one

btw i also have the same tree u got there but it is smaller

I have read online about mulching etc
What and how do I actually do that? Do i need wood chips and just scatter them on top of the soil!?

Mine was about £25 from a local place, excluding the tub which I already had. I always put bark chippings down as it stops the sun from drying the soil out too quickly (and looks better imo).

Here are 3 of mine. The 2 yew trees i have had for over 30 plus years.. I repotted them last month into bigger pots to get the roots healthy again as i hadnt touched them in over 3 years. They need tidying up a bit but they are already starting to look healthy.

I've got 3, 2 are in big pots and the other is in the ground.

The two in pots were next to each other, one absolutely thriving but the other has just dropped all its leaves and isn't looking good.

No idea why that's happened or how to fix it.

Overwatering, underwatering, disease, pest attack...also, lack of light too.

Whilst lovely colours, surely that's not ideal, as my understanding is that the different colours like different conditions - i.e. green ones prefer mostly sun, whereas the red/purple ones prefer more shade.

Got a little green one in the garden at the moment. Had to stick a stronger cane in and tie it to it as it's getting a bit battered by the wind at the moment.

They seem to do well, the way I place them I have the Green one south facing so it creates the shade for the red and yellow ones.

Btw this is another maple tree i have in a pot

i think I have another plant like lillies growing in the pot
Should i be taking these lillies out?

take it out, separate them, they are fighting for space and nutrients together, the roots will be tangled but you can cut 1/3rd off safely.

not now though, you need to wait until next spring, around feb/March time.

Ok why wait

and they are definitely different plants right?

i have a pot of lillies right near by
They must have spread across

The leaves are out and the roots have settled for the year, if you repot them you will cause stress to the tree. At minimum some leaves will fall off and potentially killing it completely. You could do it and it might work but it is not advisable if you read any literature on it.

For deciduous trees (trees that goes through the seasons, as opposed to evergreen), you repot them when all the leaves have gone and just before the new leaves come out.
