Apologies if this has been posted before, I couldn't believe it when I read it - I know the sweet & innocent 'schoolgirl' thing has been an easy way to make a few bucks in Japan, but isn't this going too far?

Japan has a new lads mag pin-up. Saaya Irie is part of a girl group called Sweet Kiss, and is selling thousands of DVDs and magazines, featuring her clad in no more than a bikini. Saaya, whose nickname is "kyonyu", or "buxom" is 12 years-old.

The under-15 market is the fastest growing in Japanese porn. Masahiro Kitagawa, one of the industry's new star spotters says "The weakening of Japanese men means guys now place a lot of importance on imagining they have control over the opposite sex... The polarization of the market is likely to continue, but I don't think it will go any lower than the Under-10s."

He's wrong: the latest erotic pin-up is nine year-old Mizuki Furui. Her first photo collection has already sold over 10,000 copies. The oriental JonBenet appears in a selection of poses wearing school uniform, PE kit and a swimsuit, licking an ice cream etc.

That's quite shocking. A colleague of mine who lived in Japan for 3 years once described the Japanese as a nation of paedophiles. I thought he was being a bit crude and taking the mickey but evidently not.
Where else in the world can you buy a pair of 'Used schoolgirls knickers' from a vending machine?

Their bodies may be developed, but their minds are not - they don't know how to handle themselves or understand the implications.
All they see is that they are getting extra attention. And most 12yos want that.

again, spot on. 12yr old girls are unlikely to understand the connotations that come with what they're doing. It sets the way for serious issues in later life.

It has also been explained that cup sizes in Japan differ from the western scale.

yeah but stil a C-D cup in Western sizes. Still pretty big for an 11 year old.

for what it's worth, I agree with you. The pictures returned are of the same girl mentioned on Wiki - in outfits and poses not really becoming of a girl her age.

I posted the thead to find out other people's opinions on the subject. I didn't say anything about child abuse, I quoted a post and said that in my opinion this was going too far. As do many of the clothes you talk about - that's wrong in my opinion too. Kids should be kids for as long as humanly possible. These views and others are now being discussed in a forum named 'general discussion'

Thread opener doesnt know much about japanese culture, obviously. They've always been of the perverse and twisted nature. If you'd bothered to do any research, you'd of found far worse, for example, selling foetus on the black market for a food delicacy. ( Awaits tiresome keyboard warrior to be corrected in some form )

Wrong. My Uncle is Japanese born and was raised there til his mid-twenties and I am aware of plenty of things in their culture that I also find also abhorrent as well as some amazing and colourful traditions which I don't. He finds the attitude of a lot of Japanese men to young girls disgusting which is why I was interested in other people's opinions. Fact is, I raised this issue as I stumbled across the article while doing some research. I'd suggest that in future you don't make assumptions because it ends up with you looking stupid.

And of course you should expect to be corrected - you made incorrect assumptions - which will always lead to you being corrected by those you are spouting off about.

This whole thread is outrage for outrage's sake. Go and write a letter to the Daily Mail or stage an actual protest or petition the UN or the Japanese Government or whatever if you feel that strongly about it.

It's a little bit weird, as we know the Japanese often are to us, but it's not like they're all running around raping children left right and centre.
