So for about 2/3 years i have had a problem with my jaw, its like when i open my mouth to talk eat or anything a bone near my ear sticks out a lot on my right side and i get really pain ear aches and jaw aches from it, if i eat on the otherside anything harder then water (so anything( i get a horrible clicking noise and my jaw on both sides lock up atleast 3 times a week and i have to forcefully pull it to be able to open and close my mouth properly - well tomorrows D-Day got an X-ray to see if i need an op on it, wish me luck :)

the doctor was funny - he took a look at it and all he said was "that doesnt look right!" and i was like - well no ****

I had jaw surgery last september. You will swell up massively but there is very little pain.

This. It's surprisingly un-painful. I broke my jaw as a child - trying to use my face as a brake on my push bike - and also laterly

.

The operations I had were uncomfortable but in no way painful really.

I had something similar, i put it down to damage i had done from boxing and playing rugby. Never thought about going to doctor about it. In the end i broke my jaw badly, playing football and had a a few lots of surgery to fix it. This has just reminded me it doesnt happen anymore.

As for the surgery, my jaw swelled up quite a bit after and it was pretty painful for a few days, not helped by me trying to eat solid food. Though i needed a wisdom tooth removed and 2 metal plates put in. I was on liquid food for 6 weeks. Was supposed to me longer but i got fed up + had lost far to much weight.

Got no feeling in the left side of my face and bottom lip and very little in my tongue, mixture of damage done when i broke it and from surgery i was told.

Im not too worried about the pain IF i have to have an Op got xray done today got a week to wait, its the fact that i am trying to find a job at the moment and this could mean that i wont be able to do much for a week or 2.

@ Mavers - i had the strange "bump" then but no pain so didnt think it was anything serious but its only recently that the pain has started to become really anything more then an annoyance as its constant at the moment

@ repta dam that sucks! i have no clue what bought mine on, its just one of the bones the doctor said what its called today but i cant remember it every time i open my mouth the done sticks out for about 1 and 1/2cm give or take and if i eat on the other side i get a horrible clicking noise the doctor said that it could have come out of place as it locks up as well

A huge shiver ran down my spine when I read the bit about your jaw locking up 2-3 times a week and having to wrench it back into place. Good luck if you need surgery and hope you have a swift recovery.

thanks, i have been on painkillers to try and see if its swollen, i knew it wouldnt work but still have to take them as it would have been hurting the whole time it was swollen and not just now, the bone actually moves right out and is clearly visible so i dont see any other way of fixing it :(

along with some crappy things to help me sleep (i have insomnia) my girlfriends step dad takes the same make butdouble the dosage and i had one of his one night when i couldnt sleep and it didnt do ANYTHING so i know these ones wont work so not only do i have to talk to the doc about the xray i have to get him to give me something stronger to help me sleep

Wisdom teeth coming through?

If they grow at odd angles, they can interfere with the movement of the Jaw..

No i dont think this is it as i had the for a while before the teeth started coming through and ONLY recently a new tooth has started to come through at the back even though i had thought my wisdom teeth had already come though

but i think its down to a particular bone in the jaw, as the teeth dont actually hurt or anything its higher up in my jaw where the jaw is meant to sit inside some groove in one of the other bones and they (doctor) thinks that the bone could have been wearing away making the bone slip in and out of the groove
