hey everyone,

this morning i got a call from a debt collection company called JBDR. they claim i owe about £100ish to pay for some sort of cctv fees for a shoplifting crime i apparently commited in B&Q in 2003. im sure they have got the wrong person since im not a thief and cannot recollect ever being stoppped for shoplifting.

anywhos moving on, in the phone call it seemed quite legit, and they asked me to confirm my street adress and postcode. i was a little concerned before giving out these details and tried to enquire more into the company before i did give the details. again they seemed legit so i did 'confirm' my adress details. later on in the call the asked me to confirm my DOB which again i was a little concerned to give out, but thought if i didnt id seem guilty, and so did 'confirm' it.

after the call i googled the company and it does seem they are somewhat fraudulant. they claim to have sent me numerous letters but i have recieved none.

my question is that i seemed to have missed a trick and given them my details without actually having to. what can they do with this if anything, and for future referance what rights do i have? also if they do call me back, how should i approach the call?

sorry if im unclear with anything. thanks for your help.

silly boy, never "confirm" your DOB/Address
At the very least, ask them what they have on file.

Anyway, write down the time of call, the basics of what was said.
Do you have a number? Request all copies of what they claim has happened, then ask them for a contact your lawyer can get in touch with

yea i guess i was stupid to give out my details but i was a little confused as they knew my name and had my phone number. but atleast i know now for future referances to approach a situation like this with more caution and hesitance.

the company has a website, www.jbdr.co.uk if anyone wants to check it out.

so if they call again, i should request for written confirmation of all the charges and claim and a number for my lawyer to clal them on (i dont have a lawyer...)

i see this is an old thread but i thought id write on it anyway. jbdr are not fake or scamers. i worked for them for a few years they are legit if a bit heavy handed at times. all the info they hold as with any debt company is what the original company gave them. which will be at the least name, address, dob and then what the debt is and how much. hope this helps somebody.
