Oh well they won't get a tip.

My view, it is discourteous to him and his family and does nobody any good.i just hope that the feels are worth it.
Personally I think everyone should be able to protest (legally) if they want too and since the staff members have no other form of protest that is going to have a significant effect on JD Vance then refusing to serve him and his family is legitimate course of action.

Jimmy Saville used to put a few £50's in pockets of people. I guess refusing him service in pubs is discourteous too.

Hey he's had money so what's the problem?

Yup, it's a bit performative and largely pointless to just do this over someone having politics you don't like.

I don't think legality really comes into it - this is just a workplace issue and I'd disagree that it's legitimate, it's likely the complete opposite of legitimate as far as employment law is concerned as on an individual basis anyone could be sacked for just refusing to serve a customer because they don't like them. But if you've got a whole group then that's riskier for the owner/management and there's the PR angle too - it's clearly much easier to back down and turn down the reservation request.

Devils advocate but could they not argue that his presence could bring unwanted protests into their pub? Taking that to the extreme putting staff in danger. Easier to ask one person to leave / not enter than an angry mob.
