JDM Import guide/walk through

Only query I had after watching the videos was if it had a spare key, and it does.

Full pack of documents and a spare is a nice bonus, not that spare keys at this age are difficult, but one less thing for the todo list.

Bought a new stereo for it, will remove the JDM double din as it has different frequencies to those here in the UK. You can buy a band expander, but it still doesnt do the full UK bandings. I wanted something that fits the style so went with this cheap Blaupunkt from Amazon at a bargain £75... its lower than normal.

I'll try and find a OEM single din cubby, or failing that, just get one from Ebay

Also bought a new geat gaiter which is needed. The top of the gear knob is worn, but on most VW's you can just swap the cap. Just going to wait till closer to the time before getting one and trying it, plenty out there.

Didn't happen to see a alphard hidden in the lot? I'm currently awaiting photos and intrest to see if I spot your car.

@Axeboy When you leave a deposit with Pacific, do you get access to USS auction house auctions by default, or are they charging extra?

You get to see the cars that come up for free, but USS restricts any agents using data, so photos and sheets are restricted

So you can see what's going through for free, but to see the full details, you need to leave a deposit and request the info manually. Same for all. Although as mentioned somewhere earlier, you can also pay for a USS account yourself to see the data quicker

So in summary:

Free account = see them high level
Buyers account = ability to request all info for free
USS License = ability to view yourself for a small monthly fee

How much is the USS License?

Hey mate, so, USS have the "Ninja" system which allows access to most of the info. Dealers can buy licenses and allow access to customers, getting a discount in the process.

It's 1900yen, or approx £10 per month. If you have a buyers account, you can have this added in now and can stop anytime. Monthly costs would be added to your invoice upon winning a car.

I got a much more detailed reply from Pacific, but those are the headlines.

I normally pay my deposit and then use it on the car balance, but next time I might get the USS license and leave my deposit with them to retain a buyers account and keep the license for maximum nerding

Email received today from Pacific with the following documents:

Export Certificate
Translation of the above in XLS
Copy of my Invoice

This is also as well as confirming the shipping which is:

VESSEL: ONYX ACE V.0111A
ETD YOKOHAMA: 6/26
ETA NEWCASTEL: 8/16

So should arrive mid August.

All of this info is also CC'd to Cheryle at JC shipping who Ive used for years to do the clearance and port fees etc on this side. She has always done that part for relatively small fees.

I imported a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo manual gearbox in 2003, was mint, sold it for a nice profit, and imported an Impreza WRX Type RA in 2004, broke even on it (good reliable car but had been in a smash).

Not sure what the exchange rate is now but recall back then it was really good and most cars could be imported for significantly cheaper than buying here. I drove the Impreza back home from Newcastle 220 miles with no reg plate and still had the auction scribbles all over the windscreen, passed police too, I assume they knew what it was.

I can't recall every step but recall most things were fairly easy with a bit of preparation and I enjoyed it all. Kudos to you OP, very good thread and read, I hope your Lupo turns out to be a good example (every chance it will, if I had the choice of buying in Japan or the UK I'd choose Japan).

Hah, I did the same years ago with an Integra DC2, put a bit of paper front and back with the chassis number, insured and drove it for MOT

Not sure if it's still allowed, but it was back then

Probably wont have updates till the car arrives. I have bought some bits n bobs for it:

Gear Gaiter
New Gear Knob plate/cover
Aerial
Retro Stereo

Just cheap and easy stuff for now, but I like getting prepped on the low risk/cost stuff.

Next update in a few months should be the notification and bill for its arrival. Ill share it when it comes, the breakdown of costs etc

You seen this before @Axeboy?

The "payable access" part?

Nope!

Love a ISF though. Can't find any CAA Auctions to check, they might be going the USS route.
